With Cyclone Narelle bringing rain and gusty conditions to Wagin, it's a good time to check your household is storm-ready.
Here's some advice from Department of Fire and Emergency Services WA:
β
Emergency plan: The emergency planning tool within Emergency WA allows you to prepare for a range of hazards including storms, bushfires, cyclones and floods: https://www.emergency.wa.gov.au/plan
π§° Prepare an emergency kit: Having an up to date emergency kit can better prepare your household for all hazards. Everyone in your household should know where the emergency kit is and be able to reach it. Follow this link for advice on what to include in your kit: https://www.dfes.wa.gov.au/hazard-information/storm/prepare
π΄ Prepare your pets and livestock: Ensure that your pets are properly identified with a name tag or microchip or that you have a recent photo of them with you, and that stock registers for your livestock are current. Find out more about pet and livestock welfare in an emergency here: https://www.dpird.wa.gov.au/businesses/animal-welfare-businesses/animal-welfare-in-emergencies/
π Prepare your property:
β’ Keep branches and trees trimmed around structures and powerlines to prevent damage.
β’ If needed, hire a contractor to clear trees from power lines.
β’ Keep gutters clear so they drain freely.
β’ Check for loose tiles and cladding on roofs to reduce leaks and risk of flying debris.
β’ Check fastenings, joints and bolts on structures including carports and patios to make sure they are secure and not rusted.
β’ Check your home, contents and car insurance cover are in order.
β’ If flash flooding is a risk for your area, follow the flood property preparation advice: https://www.dfes.wa.gov.au/hazard-information/flood/prepare
