I am a totally average person with no particular athletic ability but decided to go for a wander 430kms around my electorate to raise money for Wagga Women's Health Centre Inc.
It has been a journey of big night skies, endless Black Cockatoos, Goannas, Snow gums and Pobblebonks 🐸 The hills and elevation through some our our alpine and semi-alpine terrain has been the most rewarding of all.
I am so grateful for every single family member and friend and mentor who has helped me along the way. To these people, I say the biggest thank you! You know who you are.
Some people asked me how I prepared for the trip, but mostly it was just mental preparation. I prepared for the birding since childhood with my dad and my grandma. I prepared for the bushwalking by being dragged out as a reluctant teenager and pushed out of my comfort zone. I prepared to be on country by being guided through 2 Vision Quests, and this was how I knew I was hungry for a longer stint under the open skies and longed to be hugged by the eucalypt forest canopies. I prepared my strength with Ginny at Active Farmers. I prepared to walk by spending countless hours wandering around the paddocks, wetlands, creeks and rural spaces I get to call home.
It breaks my heart to see my community losing countless essential services that we need to live happy, healthy and creative lives in the Riverina. It breaks my heart to see women and our natural spaces bearing the greatest impact of this loss.
Please donate to my GoFundMe to raise much needed funds to keep the Wagga Women’s Health Centre open and active. Link at the bottom of this post.
We’re all, always, weaving threads and experiences of our lives to lead us into the next thing. So grateful for this earth playground and all her magnificent, more-than-human creatures, plants, animals, minerals, elements and webs we get to share this special place with 💜💚
