Today, we join the melanoma community, researchers, clinicians, patients and families across Australia in mourning the loss of Professor Richard Scolyer AO.
Richard was more than a world-renowned melanoma pathologist and researcher โ he was a passionate advocate, an inspiration, and a man whose work has helped save countless lives. His groundbreaking contributions to melanoma research transformed treatment options and brought hope to patients and families around the world. His dedication to improving outcomes for those affected by melanoma leaves a legacy that will continue for generations.
The Amie St Clair Melanoma Trust was privileged to become part of the Melanoma Institute Australia family in 2020, strengthening our shared commitment to supporting patients, raising awareness and working towards a future with zero deaths from melanoma.
We were especially honoured to welcome Richard as our special guest speaker at our Annual Ball in 2024. Like so many who met him, we were struck not only by his brilliance, but by his warmth, humility and genuine kindness. He gave his time generously, inspiring everyone in the room with his unwavering dedication to making a difference.
Even after being diagnosed with glioblastoma, Richard faced his own illness with extraordinary courage and openness, continuing to advance research while giving hope to others facing cancer. His determination, resilience and selflessness touched people far beyond the medical community.
Richardโs legacy will live on through the lives he saved, the research he championed, and the countless people he inspired to keep fighting for a world free from melanoma.
Our thoughts are with his wife Katie, their children, his colleagues, and all who knew and loved him.
Thank you, Richard. Your impact will never be forgotten. ๐
Forever part of the Amie St Clair family.
