We were very excited to spot this bird outside the window during our team meeting this week! This bird was once known as a 'Bronze-Winged Pigeon'. In comparison to Australia's other two types of Bronzewings, the 'Brush Bronzewing' and the 'Flock Bronzewing', this guy is indeed the most 'common' of the three species. Today, he is known as the 'Common Bronzewing', although we don't think this name does much justice to acknowledge the declining numbers of some of our most 'common' birds in Australia.

A huge thank you to Riverina Water for their generous grant support, which has helped us further enhance our Volunteer Hub. Thanks to this funding, we've been able to install all-purpose weather blinds, creating a more comfortable and functional space for our volunteers and community members throughout the year.

Our water station was also generously donated by Riverina Water. It provides an easy access to drinking water in the garden.

These improvements will make a lasting difference to our volunteers and visitors, and we're incredibly grateful for Riverina Water's commitment to supporting local community organisations. Thank you for helping us create a more welcoming, practical, and sustainable space for our community

We believe that caring for the Earth isn't just on a global scale. It's also about the small choices we make every day. Every seed planted, every sustainable choice, every resource conserved, and every connection made with nature leads to a healthier and happier future for all.

This World Environment Day, we're celebrating the power of walking lightly on the Earth. Together, small actions can create lasting change.

As winter approaches, many of us naturally feel called to slow down and align with the rhythm of the longer nights. This season invites rest, reflection, and restoration.

While you may still spot wattles, eucalyptus, and other native species flowering through the cooler months, much of our Australian native flora is quietly slowing its growth above ground as it strengthens and establishes deep roots below the surface.

Traditionally, this time of year has been one of our busiest at ErinEarth as we prepare for our Winter Festival. But this year, we’ve taken the opportunity to pause and reflect on what feels most aligned for our team, our space, and our wider ErinEarth community.

The ErinEarth Winter Festival has always held a special place in our hearts. It began as a way to celebrate the garden, connect with the Wagga community, and share this magical space with others. After much consideration, we’ve made the difficult decision not to go ahead with the festival this year.

We understand this may bring disappointment to some, and we deeply appreciate your understanding and continued support. Please know that ErinEarth is still here — continuing to nurture connection, education, and community through the seasons.

The Winter Festival will return next year. Until then, we hope you embrace the beauty of winter’s stillness and the gentle reminder that growth often begins beneath the surface.

The ErinEarth Community are so proud to celebrate with Kaye and Carmel as the Walk of Honour Plaque was unveiled last week, and again today at a morning tea with the staff and volunteers in the garden.

We are so grateful for the beautiful gift that ErinEarth is. None of it would be as it is today, without the passion, determination and unwavering devotion from Kaye, Carmel and the Presentation Sisters. The Walk of Honour Award was so well-deserved and we want to shout from the tree-tops how amazing these wonderful ladies are, and all of their achievements speak for themselves. It is an honour to walk beside them as we continue to care for ErinEarth, and offer the space that they generously bought to life.

It’s National Volunteer Week, and we want to take a moment to celebrate the incredible people who help make ErinEarth what it is. 💚

From caring for the garden, to supporting our open days, to contributing their time and wisdom on our board — our volunteers are the quiet force behind so much of what happens here. Their generosity, dedication, and belief in community help this space continue to grow and thrive.

Volunteering at ErinEarth is about so much more than lending a hand. It’s about connection, learning, sharing skills, caring for the earth and for one another. Every person who gives their time leaves an imprint on this place.

This year’s theme is “It’s your year to volunteer” — and we think that message couldn’t be more meaningful. If you’ve ever felt called to spend more time in nature, meet like-minded people, learn new skills, or contribute to our goal to walk lightly on the earth, maybe this is your sign. 🌱

To all of our volunteers: thank you. ErinEarth simply wouldn’t be the same without you.

And to those considering getting involved… perhaps this is your year to volunteer. ✨
