This has to be one of the most special adoptions we’ve ever had. ❤️
I called this beautiful girl Mumma, although she would later become Esma.
When we first heard about her, she was absolutely terrified of humans — and for good reason. She had been horribly mistreated. People had chased her and even thrown bricks at her. 💔
A caring couple reached out after hearing about her and what might happen to her next. Mumma had one tiny baby with her, who we called Bug. We never knew what happened to her other babies.
They managed to trap Mumma and Bug, and I went and picked them up.
Little Bug slowly learned that humans could be kind and eventually found a loving home of her own. Mumma was different. After everything she had been through, trusting people was going to take time.
And it did.
But every tiny bit of progress felt enormous. Every pat she allowed us to give her was a little victory. Then came the day she started climbing onto our laps. Those moments were so rewarding and incredibly precious because we knew just how much courage and trust it took for her to get there. ❤️
I fostered Mumma for over a year, giving her all the time she needed to learn that she was safe.
Then a very special couple came along. They were willing to take a chance on a shy little kitty who might need extra time and patience to settle in. They welcomed her into their home and gave her exactly what she deserved — love, patience and security.
That was five years ago.
I still get regular updates from her wonderful humans, and seeing the life she has now makes my heart so happy.
From a frightened little cat who had bricks thrown at her and every reason to fear people, to a much-loved family member living her absolute best life — complete with an adopted sister. 🥹❤️
This is why rescue is worth it.
Sometimes the animals who take the longest to trust are the ones whose transformations stay with you forever.
Mumma/Esma, you will always be one of the special ones. ❤️🐾
