Our Story

219 Army Cadet Unit Wagga Wagga had its beginnings in 1991.

On the 11th February 1992 approval was given to raise a cadet unit, which was to be known as 219 Regional Cadet Unit Wagga Wagga.

The unit was put on three month probation to provide it could maintain numbers and run as a unit. The sponsor for the unit was to be Wagga Wagga RSL Sub branch and the foster unit was to be 4/3 RNSWR.

The unit’s place to hold parades is the Army Reserve Depot on Docker Street Wagga Wagga on Saturday mornings between 9am and 12pm which later changed to Thursday nights.

In June 1992, 219 Regional Cadet Unit became an official unit of the Australian Army Cadet Corps, with LT(AAC) Peter H***e as its appointed Officer Commanding.

Over the past 25 years 219 ACU has participated in various activities.

In October 1993 cadets from the unit were stewards at a reunion dinner for 4/3 RNSWR at the Army Reserve Depot Docker street, at which ex governor of NSW Sir Roden Cutler, VC KCMG,CBE was a guest. Cadets form the unit attended the re burial of the unknown soldiers remains at the Australian War Memorial Canberra. Cadets were also door openers for the Olympic Minister, Mr Michael Knight, MP for his visit to Wagga Wagga.

Cadets have attended Annual Camps at Singleton, Kapooka. Bivouacs at Livingstone State Forest, Pomingalarna Reserve, Gutter Park, Jindalee State Forest, MIA State Forest, Laurel Hill Forest Lodge Tumbarrumba.

Trips to Puckapunyal Military Area and Museum, “Operation Snowflake” which was a survival exercise with other units at Threadbo snow area and other exercises of survival with members of Adventure training wing Kapooka.

ANZAC Day ceremonies at Wagga Wagga, Uranquinty and RSL Remembrance Village, Catafalque Parties at Wagga Wagga War Cemetery and Uranquinty. Participated in the closing ceremony at Australian war memorial Canberra 1996. Participate in adventure training and Duke of Edinburgh award scheme

Leeton became part of 219 ACU Wagga Wagga as 3 platoon. They became their own unit in 2008.
