🚨BREAKING NEWS🚨 Justice at last for refugee children detained on Nauru, with the UN ruling that Australia violated their human rights.

The decision comes 9 years after RACS lodged a complaint on behalf of a group of unaccompanied children who were arbitrarily detained on Nauru.

“I cannot overstate how important this decision is,” said Sarah Dale, RACS Centre Director & Principal Solicitor. “We have been fighting for this justice, against all odds, for almost a decade.”

Aarash (a pseudonym), now in his late 20s, shared: “I was 16 years old and I cannot remember any of my birthdays since 2013. Now that I'm grown, when I see younger ones that age, having fun, playing, going to school, it reminds me of everything I lost. I felt less human, not human at all.”

John Paterson Jeffrey and Deacon have become integral workers on the night bus service operated by local Aboriginal organisation The Mob.

The service started in response to large numbers of kids roaming the streets at night and getting themselves into trouble.

It's a problem the two young Warumungu men understand well.

Both got themselves in trouble with the law when they were younger.

"I was crazy," says Deacon, of his younger self.

"I was a little nuisance back in the day," Jeffrey says.

"I'm trying to give back to the community, to help the young ones."

Deacon and Jeffrey often share their own stories with the kids they meet on the street.

"The kids that we usually talk with, they've been through the same things that we've been through, and some of them still are doing these things," Jeffrey says.
