OUR WOMEN HAVE SPOKEN — IT IS TIME TO ACT
The women of Wadeye and Peppimenarti have spoken. Now it's time for governments to listen and act.
The newly released Mapping Women and Children’s Safety in Wadeye and Peppimenarti report, commissioned by the Thamarrurr Aboriginal Women’s Council (TAWC), captures the voices of 85 participants and identifies six key priorities to improve the safety of women and children.
The message is clear: local women know what needs to change and have identified practical solutions.
TAWC is calling on all levels of government to back these women with coordinated action, long-term funding and genuine commitment.
“We cannot keep asking women to be courageous enough to speak about violence if we are not prepared to be courageous enough to change the systems that allow it to continue.”
The women have done their part. Now it's time for action.
