We are incredibly excited to enter this next chapter for Lions Assistance Dogs and look forward to all that the future holds. We are deeply grateful for the generosity, support, and advocacy of everyone who attended, as well as the many people who continue to champion our work. Together, we are helping shape an exciting future for Lions Assistance Dogs and the New Home of Extraordinary. 🐾
Behind every assistance dog is a community of people helping make their journey possible.
This evening, the Governor hosted a reception for supporters helping the organisation continue its work giving people greater independence, confidence and connection through highly trained assistance dogs.
Lions Assistance Dogs trains and provides Hearing Assistance Dogs to people who are deaf or hard of hearing, Medical Assistance Dogs to people with type 1 diabetes, and Psychiatric Assistance Dogs to Veterans of the Australian Defence Force living with PTSD.
Among the guests was Malley, a trainee Medical Assistance Dog, who is currently learning the skills he will one day use to support a person with type 1 diabetes.
Guests also celebrated the progress of Lions Assistance Dogs’ National Training Centre - a major $10 million redevelopment which, when complete, will increase on-site capacity to 60 dogs, allowing up to 120 dogs to be trained each year, and helping address a growing 2.5 year waitlist.
