I would like to wish all the 18 other candidates who nominated for the City of Busselton elections the very best of luck tonight.

Nominating is an admirable thing. To represent your community is a privilege and an honour. It can be a daunting election process, especially being grilled at a ‘meet the candidates’. Re-nominatimg councillors have an advantage because of their prior knowledge and have (hopefully) gained some speaking skills. Nevertheless i thank you for nominating, you all have your reasons.

If elected it is a huge learning curve, one which can at times feel thankless. Four years is long time to devote to the role.

Many people don’t vote, which is a travesty. LG is the closest form of government to the people. I would be really interested in why individual’s feel that way? What can local governments do to re-engage with you?

Once again, thank you candidates. Good luck.

Many ratepayers have been asking the question “what is going on with the Performing Arts Centre”. On Wednesday night I successfully moved the following motion and it was resolved.

"That the Council extends the Resolution C2412/364 Saltwater project learnings to an interim report following the installation of the new Council prior to December 2025 or before. The final Report to be tabled six months after the official opening of the venue".

This motion, was based on Cr Andrew Macnish's original motion in December 2024, which was to communicate to the public (where possible) the issues which have beset this project, which is now 4 years on, with no end date currently known. On Wednesday my Alternate Motion was resolved.

Ratepayers are the biggest stakeholder yet are being kept in the dark. You can see the Council meeting debate here and the motion was debated at 1:33:20. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=axpUfBiAzNQ Noting some issues cannot be disclosed until the project is complete, hence your right as ratepayers to an interim report. Hopefully this will go some way to help the community understand the issues and give the open, honest, and accountability which is the mantra of local government.

Thank you to Cr Andrew Macnish for his original motion and Cr Jodie Lee for her (as ever) great debate. Noting Crs Kaigg (and the Mayor) were originally against the motion but in the end understood the ramifications of an election. Crs Cox and Kennedy voted against ultimately.

Hopefully this resolution goes some way to appease the ratepayers (and indeed those that have been affected by this project and its impacts, including businesses) because some Councillors refuse to apologise for the state of affairs and of course those pushing this project, who would not see reason, have now ‘left the building’ (a pun there on Elvis) and we now have to mop up the fallout.

I am happy to apologise personally and hope that an interim report will go some way to a long awaited update to ratepayers.

Testemonial
“Anne was the hardest working councillor that I ever worked with. Anne fought for ratepayers diligently, and she ensured she understood every detail of what she was voting on. She was always prepared to question issues, and raise alternate views, and it was this dogged determination to drill down into even the most complex issues that I admired her for. Anne always had the ratepayers’ interests in mind”,

Jacqueline Emery, former Councillor

It’s the Orchid Show weekend at Churchill Park. Such magnificent blooms and the volunteers are aplenty. It’s on again today and there is a raffle with some fabulous prizes. Well done to all those winners for their prize winning orchids and I can’t go past giving a shout out to my neighbour Shannon, who recieved a truck load of awards in the novice section, but watch out next year people she is moving up.

I enquired yesterday during briefings if the dog issue would be coming to Council at the next, and last meeting before the agenda, and the response was no due to the large number of submissions that staff have to respond and deal with.

There was some suggestion that I hate dogs! Nothing can be further from the truth. Thank you to my friends who corrected this misinformation. Sootie is a rescue that we have had now for 10’years. She has had both back legs reconstructed and can never be replaced, she has the most amasing personality. She is our baby. Ernie our grandson also loves Sootie and they are buddies. I hope the below post (questions and answers) goes some (or all) of the way to vindication. If you require more information just pick up the phone or email me. I am happy to assist you with anything on Council matters.
