Where is your teen learning about self care?

Because right now, chances are it’s TikTok.
Or Instagram.
Or their favourite influencer’s morning routine.

And while there’s nothing wrong with a little inspo online, we know that what our teens see there isn’t always the full picture of what it truly means to look after yourself.

Want to know the most powerful self care teacher in your teen’s life?
It’s YOU!!

Not a filtered reel. Not a 47-step morning routine.
YOU!!

The best way to teach your teen about self care is to role model it.
Show them how you care for yourself + invite them in.

🌞 Let them see you choosing rest without guilt.
🌞 Let them see you saying no when your cup is empty.
🌞 Let them see you move your body, nourish yourself + ask for help when you need it.

And then, do it together.

Set time in your family’s weekly schedule to prioritise self care.
It doesn’t have to be perfect or elaborate.
A walk. A slow morning. A phone-free dinner.
These small, consistent moments add up.

Because self care isn’t a trend or a treat.
It’s a way of living, every single day.

And when your teen grows up watching YOU live that way? They’ll know how to do it too. 🌞

Self care isn’t always lush bath bombs, $20 face masks + chocolate.
It isn’t always pretty, it’s not always candles + a bathtub full of roses.
Sometimes it’s forcing yourself to get out of bed. Sometimes it’s the pep talk you give yourself or the quick cry in the corner.
Sometimes it’s convincing yourself to do all the things you should be doing but you don’t have the motivation what so ever.

Sometimes it’s going to bed at 8pm or letting go of a bad friend, cutting some ties no matter how precious they once were.
Sometimes it’s the bitter medicine you need to give yourself.
It’s forgiving yourself for not meeting your impossible standards + understanding you are worth it.

Self care isn’t always pretty, but it’s worth it.
You are worth it.

What I have learned from over a decade of working with teenage girls.
They just want to be loved, listened to, laughed wth.

I always tell my students you couldn’t pay me all the money in the world to be a teenager again, especially in this modern world.

While they are moving through a world we as adults struggle to understand (phones, tik tok, ebikes 😅).

At their core they are just like us.

Still so unsure of who they are, obsessed with friendships + relationships, figuring out their way in the world with the same insecurities + fears just packaged in different ways.

What can we give them best?

Love, a listening ear, a light hearted look at life.

One of our initial sessions with our program students is Vision + Dreams.

Through conversation, meditation + current life evaluation we create an inspired action plan. Easy accessible small steps that they can do everyday towards living a 10/10 life.
Each plan is personal + we always find when students make these choices themselves they are more committed + see greater results.

The students finish this session feeling inspired + empowered to create their own best life.

🌞 Supported our students in building self awareness + self regulation tools.

🌞 Held space for honest conversations around the pressure of being a teen in 2026 + learnt from them what they are facing.

🌞 Strengthened our relationships with our schools through our aligned goals of creating lifelong wellness for our students.

Why did I start Chase the Sun?
Because I’ve been in the dark.
I believe I can support young people particularly those identified as “at risk” as I was one.
Well I wasn’t even at risk, I was risk.
Growing up in an unstable + abusive home saw me seek more of the same for a really (like really) long time + I was good at it, staying busy in the constant chaos that kept me from feeling, dealing + healing.
When I found Yoga I found home.
A place where I didn’t have to hide from myself any more, a place where I felt safe enough for the first time in my life to process, to slowly start to heal + reveal my true self.
I knew immediately that if I can help just one teenage girl find herself + avoid the dark path I would feel successful in life.
Well in the last decade I have worked with hundreds of young people, creating a program of self exploration + tools to help teens navigate their teen years with self awareness as their guiding light. 🌞
