The weather may turn nasty later tonight into the early hours. The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast storms right throughout our area and they can bring damaging wind, hail, and there is a potential for localised heavy rain. This simply means wherever the thunderstorm drops its rain, there is a potential for up to 100 mm of rain. 5 kilometres away there may be nothing. The UCSG is talking to the NSW SES and they will update the group if anything more concrete forms up. Attached is a video from the NSW SES Incident Management Team Controller. The NSW SES have opened a 24 hour control centre where they are managing the event for southern NSW.

The UCSG team are at the Cache (Mens Shed) making sure everything is good to go if needed.
If anyone is wanting to prepare in case of flash flooding come on down in next 1/2 hour.

The UCSG have being in contact with the Waga Wagga SES Operations Room in reference to the current storm warning, they note that that a situation is not likely to develop before Monday morning. However, they will keep the UCSG informed of any further developments that may affect the Uranquinty area and we will pass on this info as soon as received. These storm events can produce flash flooding, high winds and possible hail.
The UCSG recommends that if we are to be informed that this is likely, residents should prepare for this by securing loose items (such as trampolines etc) and moving vehicles into secure overhead protection.
If necessary, the UCSG will make available sandbagging equipment and sand at the men’s shed. You will be notified of timings if this is to occur.
WE WIILL MAINTAIN CLOSE CONTACT WITH THE SES AND KEEP YOU INFORMED

Just in case you ever thought of driving through floodwater... this pic was taken at Learmonth near Ballarat 😳😳😳

Although Uranquinty is not affected by the rise of the Murrimbidgee River we have a saturated catchment, and should we experience very heavy rain we may need to provide support for low lying homes.
To this end, the UCSG has a few pallets of ready-made sandbags, just in case.
Sandbags have a short shelf-life and we are in a position that we need to replace a couple of pallets with fresh bags.
If anyone can help out from 9am tomorrow (Wednesday 12th Oct) at the Cache, located at the rear of the Mens Shed on Connorton St, we would really appreciate your help. All hands welcome.
This allows us to have a very quick response.
