I recently removed the withering wreaths and flowers from the Memorial Gates following ANZAC Day so if your organisation laid a wreath at the gates and would like it returned, please let me know and I will have it ready for you.

Wreaths that were supplied by Eve Flowers have also been returned to Eve's so that they can be used again. They will also give you a discount on your next wreath if you purchased one from there.

If you had a foam backed one then we have those at the RSL room ready to return for use again if you would like it back.

Thanks.

A huge Thank You to everyone that attended our ANZAC Day Commemorative Services yesterday. It was a busy day for the Sub-branch but we went home exhausted but extremely happy with how it went. The rain or really drizzle didn't even damper everyones enthusiasm for the day.

A wonderfully attended Dawn Service followed by a very enthusiastic crowd of locals cheering on our Veteran Community lead by our very own RSL Pipes and Drums, GENS ALTERA, then an amazing crowd at the Main Service.

A special thanks to local, LCDR Robert Valler, RAN for his quest speech, Marlene Jacobs for leading us in the Hymns, Rev. Matt Borg and Mayor Robert Bell for their contributions.

Personally, I was very proud of my daughter Mel and wife Teresa for leading us in the New Zealand National Anthem and we've had several emotional visits and messages about bringing a tear to the eyes of ex-pat KIWIs in the crowd.

I think the hit of the service was young Grace Dunn for leading the singing of the Australian National Anthem and with such enthusiasm.

Another huge thank you to WO Daryl Broadley and his partner Shevaun Stait of Invergowrie for leading the march but also looking after the Australian Army Cadets. This is group of extraordinary young men and women, many of whom are locals, attend Cadets ever Monday night and learn amazing skills that can serve them in their lives ahead. They did a wonderful job yesterday and did themselves proud.

Thank you Uralla for making us feel that we belong here and our service in the ADF was worth while and appreciated. We think of all the young men and women serving now and those that follow in our and their footsteps.

Lest We Forget.

Our ANZAC Day services are getting close now. This is the most important day on our RSL Calendar.

Saturday morning we will gather at the Memorial Gates in Alma Park for the Dawn Service at 05.40 followed by Breakfast in the Park prepared by our wonderful Uralla Rotarians.

We then muster at Pioneer Park in the corner of Salisbury Street and Bridge Street at 09.30 for our march at 10.00 sharp lead by our very own Pipes & Drums, General Altera and the Army Cadets from 251 Army Cadet Unit. Our Parade Marshal is WO2 Daryl Broadley, RQMS, NSW Australian Army Cadets.

We will commence our main service at 10.30 with our Special Guest, LCDR Robert Valler, RAN addressing the crowd. Following the main service, Veterans, their families, RSL Members and guests are invited to a light lunch at the Top Pub at 12.00. Cost for lunch is $10 including drinks from our own bar.

We look forward to seeing a big crowd to cheer our Veterans on and attending our special services.

Lest We Forget.

Our ANZAC Day street stall is on this week with some beautiful badges and items for sale as well as a great raffle. 1st prize is a huge load of wood just in time for those winter fires. Second prize is a lovely picnic basket with all the trimmings and hand made picnic quilt and third prize is a beautiful hand knitted ladies cardigan. Come on down and visit the team and help out our local Veteran community.

On a more pleasurable note than my previous posts, we held a very well attended working bee at our War Memorial Gates today where we carried out some maintenance on the Memorial and the surrounding gardens. Cleaning, painting, weeding, planting and mulching. The area looked a picture this afternoon when done, in time for the towns Australia Day celebrations tomorrow. Thanks everyone for helping out and getting the place looking spiffy.

I'm probably going to get into trouble over this, but having served for nearly 21 years and served in the Persian Gulf in 1990 and knowing many of our brave service men and women who served later on in Iraq and Afghanistan, I find US President Trump's disgusting comments about NATO and Allied troop" not being needed" and "Not being on the front line" absolutely proof that this Human, and I use that term loosely, hasn't got a clue and doesn't care about anyone. Our families, including local families, suffered incredible loss being on the front line. In fact, many times our Soldiers were further up on the front line than their US counterparts. I believe that everyone should be getting our government to demand an unreserved apology from him for his comments. Why should our service men and women support a Government (US) that thinks so lightly of our men and women's sacrifice. I can't imagine that it will happen but he needs a good slap across that orange face of his.

Rant over.

Signed,

What is wrong with people. Once again our National Flag which has been flying above our War Memorial has again been stolen by some A...hole.

Are people not getting the message that this is so disrespectful to our service men and women and our veteran community not to mention the community as a whole. And of course they just don't take the flag, they cut through the line again after has just been replaced.

I get so disheartened when this is being done on such a regular basis. A new flag pole will go in with a tamper proof fittings but until then I think we are just going to have to leave the flag down, which I hate to do but we just can't keep going through the purchase of flags like this.

If anyone knows any info on who is doing this, please pass it along but if you do know who is taking the flag, remind them of the sacrifice of our service men and women who serve under this flag and how disrespectful it is to them.
