Uralla Community Garden

Uralla Community Garden A community run garden where we work together to build local food security, share knowledge and abundance, and have fun too!

Supported by ZNet Uralla and the Uralla Local Food Collective. Get in touch if you'd like to be involved! The project site is being set up as a learning center and community hub to experiment and demonstrate alternative gardening/farming methods that can be assimilated to any other situation. The focus will be on creating holistic eco-systems and an emphasis on giving rather then taking.

Here is a beautiful picture of the food we were able to share with the Uralla Neighbourhood Centre Food Pantry today, all thanks to our dedicated and amazing volunteers! 🌱

From the garden we harvested 3 lettuces, 8 bunches of spinach, a cauliflower, spring onions and, not pictured, 4 big bunches of kale!

It was also lovely to see produce donated by others in the community as well, including red cabbage, sugar peas, broccoli and more. This goes a long way to ensuring our community members have access to good, fresh produce. πŸ₯¦πŸ₯¬

Whether you’d like to learn about growing food and gardening, grow something for yourself, have your own plot, or help us grow fresh produce for the local community, everyone is welcome at the garden.

If you’ve ever thought about getting involved, come along on the first Saturday of each month and see what it’s all about. πŸ’š

πŸ₯¬πŸ’š Here's a lovely picture of Catherine from the Uralla Neighbourhood Centre Food Pantry with this week's fresh harvest from the Uralla Community Garden. πŸ’šπŸ₯¬

This week we were able to donate crisp lettuces, bunches of perpetual spinach, rocket, spring onions (thanks to one of our volunteers who grew those at home), and an interesting root vegetable called yacΓ³n, sometimes known as the Peruvian ground apple.

One of the best parts of the Community Garden is that we're always learning. We love experimenting with different plants, discovering new foods, and sharing them with our volunteers and the community alongside the more familiar favourites.

A huge thank you to everyone who helps plant, w**d, and water throughout the year. Every donation means more fresh, chemical free, locally grown produce finding its way onto local tables, and that's something we're incredibly proud to be part of. πŸ’šπŸŒ±

Even though it's the middle of winter, we still had some delicious, fresh produce make its way to the Uralla Neighbourhood Centre Food Pantry today.

Today's harvest includes perpetual spinach, silverbeet, red kale, and a number of spring onions.

We also heard a rumour that one customer said the silverbeet we have been sharing was the best silverbeet they had ever tasted, which is such lovely feedback. Food grown with love and no chemicals always tastes great!

A big thank you to all our wonderful volunteers who keep the garden thriving through every season. It's pretty special knowing that fresh, locally grown produce is making its way onto the tables of people in our community. πŸ’š

🌱 Uralla Community Garden Working Bee 🌱

Hi folks! Join us this Saturday, 6th June from 9:00am to 1:00pm at the Uralla Community Garden (3 Wood Street, Uralla). πŸ€—

There’s plenty happening in the garden as we continue preparing for winter and improving our growing spaces. This month we'll be installing more of our new grant-funded wicking beds and putting the final touches on our replacement greenhouse, which is nearly ready for use.

Whether you're a regular volunteer or have never visited before, we'd love to see you there. No gardening experience is needed, there are jobs for all ages and abilities.

Tea, coffee, morning tea and lunch will be provided.

Come along, lend a hand, meet some friendly locals, and help us continue growing a productive community garden for Uralla. 🌿

Our working bees are always a great chance to get outdoors, meet some lovely locals and be part of something that’s growing (in more ways than one). Whether you’re a regular or you’ve been meaning to come along for ages, we’d love to see you there.

No experience needed, there’s always something to suit everyone, and you can stay for as little or as long as you like.
