National Reconciliation Week reminds us of something Imagine Uraidla holds close all year round: this community is for everyone, and that our place is at its best when every person in it feels safe, welcomed and celebrated.

We are lucky beyond words to live on this country. Yuridla — meaning two ears- a name that speaks to the landscape we love and the deep connection of the Peramangk and Kaurna people to this place.

We recognise and celebrate the incredible First Nations leaders in our community, whose knowledge, generosity and presence make this place richer for all of us.

Our local kids are busy with Reconciliation Week activities at school and kindy, so take a chance to ask them about what they're learning and celebrating.

There are many events taking place across the hills and we encourage you to learn more about how you can be actively involved in reconciliation, this week and beyond.

Then continue the sustainability-themed weekend with a cosy community film afternoon hosted by Project Create.

Young people caring for place and getting creative.

After taking part in the inaugural Imagine Uraidla Youth Pitch to Win, Zadie shared a vision of young people helping shape the future of their local environment — and now that idea is coming to life through the new Future Council initiative.

Zadies idea all starts with the Uraidla Drawing Competition!

Kids are invited to create a drawing about what they love about Uraidla and the environment.

Winning designs will be printed on local produce — think jam, wine and maybe even ice cream — helping celebrate our region and raise awareness of the places young people care about most.

There are categories for:
• Under 6
• Ages 6–8
• Ages 9–12

Entries can be dropped at the Uraidla Primary School front office by Friday 22 May 2026.

A huge shout out to Zadie for getting this idea rolling and for showing how young people’s ideas can help shape community conversations in creative ways

Small ideas can spark into something special when you slow down. And that's what Jordan did last week with the gentle help of Tabytha and Sarah to organise the first Uraidla Unravelled event.

An intimate evening at we heard the story of Bhart Sundaresan .sund. Bharat was vulnerable, real, super funny, warm and connecting, a true story teller, the kind you don't want to end.

Stories of travel, stories of childhood, stories of hard times, stories of neighbours, stories of cricket of course, stories of mental health and camaraderie, stories of fame and stories of Uraidla.

Bharat had deep, reflective advice for all who gathered to listen. He spoke about how lucky he feels to be here, the space the hills provide to hear thoughts that a loud big city can drown out, to be truly connected to neighbours, to feel valued and proud.

We are so super duper lucky to have Bharat in our community, if you see him out and about with his gorgeous wife Isha, their fluffy dogs and stiking attire say hi have a yarn. When we share our stories we connect, we find common ground and we realise we are all humans making the best of this precious place we call home.

Thank you to eveyone for helping to bring the community together in remembrance, reflection and quiet connection at this morning's ANZAC dawn service. It was wonderful to see over 300 people in attendance.

"We are deeply grateful to the SA CWA Uraidla & Districts Branch members for creating, sewing and sourcing around 4,000 poppies for the magnificent poppy shower that now adorns the remembrance garden. Your care and dedication have created something truly moving. Thank you also for preparing the wreaths placed at the monument and for providing ANZAC biscuits.

Our thanks extend to the Uraidla Districts Football Club and the Uraidla Netball Club for hosting breakfast this morning, offering a warm and welcoming space for the community to gather after the service.

We also acknowledge the invaluable support of the Summertown CFS for their assistance with set up, lighting and traffic control, along with the UDSMP committee and the students from Uraidla Primary School who have generously contributed their time and energy to help deliver this service."

Autumn, so fresh and cosy and the perfect time to celebrate.

Uraidla Autumn Equinox Festival
Saturday 18 April 2026 | 1.00 pm to 5.00 pm | Uraidla Main Street

Local families are warmly invited to the Uraidla Autumn Equinox Festival on Saturday 18 April.

This community celebration will bring Uraidla Main Street to life with an afternoon of markets, live music, children’s activities, food and a festive autumn atmosphere. A children’s parade is planned for around 4.00 pm, making this a lovely outing for families with young children as well as older kids.

With a theme of balance, harvest and seasonal change, the festival will celebrate the beauty of autumn in the Adelaide Hills through colour, creativity and community spirit. It promises to be a relaxed and family-friendly afternoon, with plenty to enjoy for children and adults alike.

Importantly, this is a joint project between the Uraidla Hotel and local community members, reflecting a shared commitment to keeping Uraidla Main Street active, connected and buzzing through community-led activity.

A big thank you to everyone who supported this year’s Imagine Uraidla firewood fundraiser.

We hope your are feeling cosy and have enjoyed your first fireside evening. As you light your fire and keep your wood stacks neat we wanted to thank everyone involved.

We missed a few names off the thank you list in our recent newsletter, and we are sorry about that.

Behind the scenes, volunteers put in hours coordinating delivery access and logistics, working together as a well organised team to make the whole operation run smoothly.

The mastermind is Tom Feinle-Bisset supported closely this year by Annie O'Connell. They spent many hours behind the scenes contact people by phone and email to arrange delivery and payments.

Here is some insight into the logistics and all the people we are grateful for: Sarah Hill arranges website ordering system and promo, Annie O'Connell sends emails and arranges payments (plus helps on delivery days), Tom Feinel- Bisset arranges all logistics including personal phone calls to make sure wood can be delivered and Francis Elemdorp arranges payments. Neil Mullard on the loader, Simon Berry driver with Steve Bottroff navigator and Geoff Nairn who collects and returns the truck to Jonathan Getty’s Tree Tech Services in Edwardstown. Max Chevalier driver with Francis driving Malcolm Berce’s truck from Desert Flower Landscaping, James Parkin driver with Emily Feinle-Bisset navigator driving Chris Kiesling’s truck. Geoff Palmer driving his own 4WD and tipping trailer with Bob Koehne navigator and Sam McIntosh helping with loading, plus Annie. Chris Say assisted in the first two Saturdays, Dave Vince drove his own vehicle and tipping trailer and Alby Griffith, Jake Geers and Arthur Brammy helped with loading. Finally Jess de Campo smooths out any bumps and Tabytha Elemdorp, Emily Pedler and Annie & Rosie O'Connell who baked biscuits for volunteers.

We learnt a few things this year to improve on for next year and your feedback is always welcome.

Whether you purchased wood, spread the word, or gave your time and machinery, this was a true community effort.

We gathered for a picnic and film launch that felt nothing short of magical, with a warm, glowing autumn vibe that will hold a special memory.

The Uraidla Community film, beautifully produced by Paul Mayers, alongside the stunning Faces of Uraidla showcase by Aaron Austin Glen, brought both happy tears and a deep sense of pride. Seeing the film’s stars mingling amongst locals was a true highlight, a reminder of just how special our community is.

Anya Anastatsia’s tunes, paired with the joyful beats of the Uraidla Concert Band, carried us through the afternoon, while Tim from Hokey Pokey's ever-popular ice cream was the perfect treat in the balmy weather.

We connected, swapped stories, reminisced about days gone by, and chatted about everything from puppies and firewood to town water, sport, gardening, and old friends, the kind of rich and real, grassroots conversations that make a place feel like home.

A heartfelt thank you to Emily, who brought this event to life so beautifully.

With deep gratitude from all of us at Imagine Uraidla. Thank you for continuing to show up, connect, and care for this very special place.
