Born in Prospect in South Australia in 1915, Rex Patterson Tilbrook would grow up to become an engineer, designer and fabricator, who produced motorcycle accessories, motorcycle sidecars and eventually his own pioneering range of motorcycles and racing machines.

This image of a Tilbrook sidecar, taken in front of what is now The Rising Sun Inn in Kensington in Adelaide, celebrates his innovation.

Uraidla Heritage salutes great automotive innovators such as Rex Patterson Tilbrook whose enduring legacy is the rich and diverse vintage, veteran and classic car and motorcycle ecosystem that we enjoy today.

The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride has a mission to unite enthusiasts and raise funds for men’s health. This worthy cause was evidently inspired by an image of Jon Hamm as Don Draper in Mad Men wearing a fine suit on a classic bike. Bravo! 👏

Founded in Sydney in 2012 by Mark Hawwa, The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride has gone global in its quest to unite. Kudos to Ben at Collectable Classics & Complete Auto Solutions at Strathalbyn for his significant efforts in building this and its sister car event in South Australia.

Uraidla Heritage salutes the founder, the values, riders and organisers and looks forward to next year’s DGR event in 2027.

There’s something vitally important about communities, particularly in the townships of the Adelaide Hills. A healthy community isn’t simply a collection of homes. It’s people knowing one another, looking out for one another, sharing skills, and having somewhere to meet.

And there’s value in the culture of making, fixing and tinkering. Working on a classic car. Restoring a motorcycle. Building something in a shed. Repairing a piece of machinery rather than throwing it away. Teaching someone else how to weld, paint, rebuild an engine or use a tool.

This is called circularity, and although these activities might on the surface appear to be about machinery, they’re actually about people. They create purpose, conversation, friendships and connection.
