With the days heating up and the ground drying out, landholders are wanting to burn off.

All fires over 2m in any direction require a permit.

Permits are free.

In rural Queensland the use of fire is controlled through the volunteer Fire Warden network.

Remember, if you live in an urban or rural fringe community, the Fire Warden could be your local fire station.

The Fire Warden’s role includes:
-granting or rejecting applications for permit to light fire
-determining the conditions under which permitted fires can be lit
-advising owners and occupiers of the need for fuel and hazard reduction
-recommending safety precautions for the protection of homes and assets.

🥵 A heatwave in Queensland isn’t the same everywhere.

What counts as a heatwave in Brisbane might be a typical summer day in Outback Queensland!
It's all about local averages.

A heatwave in Queensland is when there are 3 or more days of high maximum and minimum temperatures that are unusual for that location.

So, when you hear ‘heatwave’, it means the temperature is going to be higher than it normally is in your area.

For tips on staying safe in the heat, visit www.health.qld.gov.au/heatsafe

Today’s another hot one, Gympie region. 🥵

With this kind of heat, right now is the perfect time to familiarise yourself with how to access Fire Danger Ratings.

The Bureau of Meteorology has a useful four day lookahead on Fire Danger Ratings in the Wide Bay and Burnett area. Keep informed here: https://www.bom.gov.au/location/australia/queensland

Fire danger ratings let you know how dangerous a fire would be if one broke out in your area. Stay prepared and monitor the danger.
