Stop Trashing Our Planet - Oppose Consumerism Saving our world from climate change means changing our behaviour. Consumption - buying stuff we don't really need is damaging our children's future. STOP.

Someone needs to save the planet. How about you? We are told to consume by the media. The belief that material goods enhance our status is robbing our children of a secure future. We drain the resources of our planet, turning riches to trash - damaging our environment to the point that the weather we depend on is damaged. Since corporations and governments drag their feet, it's up to us to stop th

e catastrophe - we must stop the unnecessary consumption. There are many people and organisations working to keep coal in the ground, save animals and habitats; none seem to face up to the elephant in the room. Our excess consumption is driving the destruction of our environment and the people who profit from it will not tell us to stop. We, in affluent societies, are the ones who most need to change our ways. We can no longer aspire to extravagant lifestyles - not if we care for our children's future.

We're really disappointed in the Budget.

Communities needed more funding to prepare for climate disasters and there was nothing.

Extreme weather is already costing Australians $38 billion every year. As insurance becomes unaffordable or even unavailable, our communities and local governments are left to pick up more of the recovery bill. We are becoming locked into a costly cycle of disaster, rebuild, and repeat.

With climate-fuelled disasters becoming more severe, that bill keeps growing.

We believe Australians shouldn’t be left paying while the biggest polluters keep making record profits.

It’s time for the government to make big polluters pay their fair share - to help pay for the resilience and adaptation that our communities need now.

Today, Woodside, Santos, and Chevron will front the Senate inquiry into gas tax reform.

Let's not forget: gas exporters are taking our resources, polluting our climate and pocketing the returns, leaving Australians to pay now and into the future.

It's time for gas corporations to pay their fair share of tax, and for that revenue to cut cost of living and climate pollution.
