Designed for people who work, volunteer or spend time in remote locations, this nationally recognised course goes beyond standard first aid to cover extended casualty care, evacuation planning, communication and decision-making when immediate medical assistance isn't available.

This National Volunteer Week, we’d like to extend a huge thank you to our incredible team of St John volunteers across Tasmania 💚

From youth programs and first aid education to social support, community activities and Event Health Services, our volunteers help keep communities across the state safer, stronger and more connected.

So much of what volunteers do happens quietly. Behind the scenes, after hours, in the crowd, on the sidelines, and in the moments most people never see. But the impact is enormous.

Your dedication, compassion and willingness to step in when needed is what allows St John to support communities across Tasmania each and every day.

Thank you to our volunteers here in Tasmania, and the nearly 12,000 St John volunteers supporting communities across Australia. Your support allows St John to be the unofficial sponsor of helping communities do their thing.

Every year, seasonal workers from Timor-Leste and Tonga play an important role supporting Tasmanian farms, regional businesses and communities.

Many also come from communities where access to first aid training and emergency care is limited.

That’s why St John Tasmania has been supporting a new Introduction to First Aid program at Murakaei Farm, helping workers build practical skills they can use here in Tasmania and take home to their own communities.

So far, 65 workers have completed the training, with specially adapted first aid kits and guides also being sent home with returning workers.

The program builds on years of work by our State Commissioner, Carl Graham, supporting first aid and emergency care development in Timor-Leste through training, mentoring and health partnerships.

We’re Agfest ready 🚜

A huge shout out to our incredible Event Health Services volunteers, providing first aid care and helping keep the community safe behind the scenes. From long days on their feet to responding when people need help most, these volunteers are a huge part of what makes events like Agfest possible.

For everything else first aid, you’ll find the St John team at Site 613 with first aid supplies, kits, defibs, kids activities and a few fun surprises along the way.

Bring the kids over for some hands-on fun, have a chat with the team, stock up on supplies, or just stop by and say hello!

Today is World Asthma Day.

Asthma attacks can be frightening. But knowing what to do can make all the difference.

âś… 4 puffs of a reliever inhaler (one at a time)
âś… 4 breaths after each puff
âś… Wait 4 minutes
âś… Then repeat every 4 minutes until the person improves, or help arrives

If someone in your life has asthma, it’s worth knowing exactly what to do.
