West Coast Mayor Shane Pitt will ask council to consider giving departing Brisbane Lions coach Chris Fagan 'the keys' to Queenstown after the hometown hero led Brisbane to a third straight AFL premiership.
Fagan was born in Queenstown and is only the seventh VFL/AFL coach to complete a three-peat, after earlier playing in premierships with Hobart and Devonport, but has now announced he will step down as coach.
Pitt said Fagan had made the West Coast “so proud” and called him a role model whose 2024 premiership cup visit showed his generosity.
"That award does not currently exist as a civic honour, but a recognition of that kind would be fitting for a man who has done so much for our region through his deeds and actions," Pitt said.
The council is yet to consider the mayor's proposal.
