Doctors should be able to trust that lifesaving equipment will work when they need it.

Following concerns about corpuls defibrillators used across NSW ambulances and hospitals, ASMOF NSW President, Dr Nicholas Spooner has called for transparency from NSW Health about the extent of the issue, the action being taken and how clinicians are being kept safe and informed.

Patient and staff safety must always come first.

Royal North Shore Hospital is saying enough is enough with the meal fob system! Limited choice, poor accessibility and inadequate options for dietary requirements are leaving JMOs working overtime without an acceptable meal.

RNSH JMOs have launched a petition to scrap the meal fob and reinstate the $38.65 meal allowance paid at other hospitals across NSLHD. This is a member-led campaign. RNSH - support your colleagues and sign their petition!

NSW Health has implemented its latest ‘Using Social Media’ Policy Directive despite opposition from health unions across NSW.

We raised significant concerns about the policy during the drafting process. While some of our suggested amendments were adopted, our core concerns remain.

The policy is overly restrictive and risks creating a chilling effect on frontline health workers speaking up. Doctors should be able to advocate for safer workplaces and better patient care without fear of being silenced.

We will continue to advocate for doctors’ ability to speak up about patient safety, working conditions and problems within our health system.

ASMOF NSW stands in solidarity with Victorian public hospital doctors taking protected industrial action.

After more than a year of negotiations, Victorian doctors are standing together for fair pay, an end to unpaid overtime, safer working hours, adequate rest and conditions that support a sustainable public health system.

By taking industrial action for better working conditions, doctors are standing up for themselves, their colleagues and safer patient care.

Chronic underfunding and workforce decisions are hollowing out public hospital services, even when the risks to patient safety are known.

In Port Macquarie, the result has been the loss of specialists, vital services and specialist training accreditation.

Yesterday, we joined NSW Nurses and Midwives' Association and HSU NSW at the NSW Health Safety Taskforce, established to address violence and safety risks facing healthcare workers.

For more than two decades, reviews, inquiries and taskforces have identified the same problems and many of the same solutions.

We already know what needs to change. Doctors need safe staffing and properly resourced hospitals, as well as action on overcrowding, access block and long wait times that contribute to violence in our hospitals.

Another Government Taskforce that produces recommendations without the resources to deliver them is not action - it’s more of the same.

We’ll keep pushing for real action to make our hospitals safer.

Healthcare workers at Calvary Mater Newcastle have been raising the alarm. Now the parliamentary inquiry has backed their concerns.

In March, we made a submission to the inquiry, informed directly by healthcare workers at Calvary Mater. Our members reported recurring mould and air-quality issues, water damage, ventilation problems and clinical space closures, with serious consequences for patient safety, staff workload and the delivery of care.

They also described repeated workarounds, slow responses to maintenance issues and a lack of clear accountability, with frontline staff left managing the consequences.

The inquiry has now recommended ending the hospital’s public-private partnership and bringing the hospital back into public hands.

Healthcare workers have spoken. The problems are well documented. The NSW Government needs to act.
