🔥 IMPORTANT – FIRE PERMITS REQUIRED FROM 1 SEPTEMBER 🔥

The Bush Fire Danger Period begins tomorrow, 1 September, and from this date a fire permit is required for certain types of burning.

⚠️ Do not light a fire without checking whether you need a permit.

If you are planning to burn, please contact your local brigade or the NSW RFS before lighting up.

Warmer weather is here, and now is also the time to prepare your property. Embers can travel ahead of a bush fire and find their way into your home and around your property.

🌿 Clear leaves, twigs and debris
✂️ Cut back vegetation around buildings
🌱 Keep grass and lawns maintained
🏠 Clean your gutters
🪵 Move combustible materials away from buildings
💧 Check hoses, pumps and water supplies

You don't have to do everything in one day — start with the jobs closest to your home.

🔥 One ember can end it. Prepare now and stay bush fire ready!

⭐️FYI⭐️

Ulong and Lowanna Rural Fire Brigades are working together to review Static Water Supplies (SWS) within our local area.

If you have a Static Water Supply on your property (identified by a sign at your front gate), could you please send us a private message? Some signs may have been installed in the past without the water source being formally registered, and we'd like to ensure our records are up to date.

We are also happy to visit your property to discuss the best access options for firefighting purposes, whether by fire truck or portable pump.

If you have a dam, tank, or other standing water supply that could be useful during an emergency, we'd be happy to assist you with the registration process.

We are aiming to complete this review within the next month so that all Static Water Supply information is finalised before the Bush Fire Danger Period commences. Accurate records help firefighters quickly identify and access available water supplies when they are needed most.

Due date: 17.07.26

▪️AIDER PROGRAM▪️

We would also like to remind our community about the NSW RFS AIDER (Assist Infirm, Disabled and Elderly Residents) Program. AIDER is a free, one-off service available to eligible residents living on bush fire prone land who may have limited support to prepare their property. Assistance can include clearing gutters, reducing vegetation around the home, removing leaf litter, trimming branches and slashing long grass to help reduce bush fire risk.

If you think you, a family member, friend or neighbour may be eligible, please contact us or the NSW RFS for more information.

Thank you for helping us keep our community prepared and protected.

As we move into the colder months, fire agencies often see an increase in house fires as residents use their fireplaces and heaters to stay warm. With temperatures dropping and possible snow forecast across parts of the state in the coming days, it’s important you know how to stay safe.

Remember, you won’t smell smoke while you’re asleep, so make sure your bleeping smoke alarms are working. A working smoke alarm can save your life and give you and your family valuable time to escape a burning home.

Yesterday members from the Ulong RFB attended the Anzac March & Ceremony at the Ulong Ex-Servicemen and Women's Club with our colleagues from the Lowanna Rural Fire Brigade and the Eastern Dorrigo First Response. Our beautiful wreaths were made by our member Ellie thank you.

We will remember them.

Lest we forget.
