What a year for our North Coast OzFish Chapters.

Together, our volunteers, members and local communities have achieved some incredible results for fish and the waterways we all love.

Here's what we accomplished together:
• Welcomed 256 OzFish members
• Planted 8,900 native trees and grasses
• Ran or collaborated on 94 community events
• Engaged 1,650 volunteers
• Restored 11.35 km of fishable riverbank
• Removed 1,079 kg of rubbish from our waterways

These numbers represent thousands of hours of hard work, muddy boots, early mornings and passionate people rolling up their sleeves to make a real difference.

To every volunteer, chapter leader, partner and supporter who gave their time this year, thank you. Every tree planted, every bag of rubbish removed and every metre of riverbank restored helps create healthier fish habitat for generations to come.

We're incredibly proud of what we've achieved together, and we're only just getting started. Here's to another year of restoring fish habitat and proving what local communities can achieve when they work together.

❗️Attention NSW OzFishers❗️

TONIGHT’s virtual event is your last chance to join the conversation around the future health of NSW’s waterways!

Over the past month, the NSW Community Water Quality Tour has brought together researchers, rec fishers and community groups for lively discussions, fascinating insights and inspiring ideas about how we can work together for healthier waterways and better fishing.

If you couldn't make one of the regional events, you have one final opportunity to be part of the conversation – no matter where in NSW you live, work and fish.

OzFish Unlimited will be hosting the tour’s one and only online session tonight, 23 July, from 7pm to 9pm.

Professor Kirsten Benkendorff of Southern Cross University, marine biologist Dr Ben Diggles, and aquatic veterinary specialist Dr Matt Landos will offer their insight and expertise on some of the biggest challenges facing NSW waterways today.

The session will end with an open discussion – your local knowledge and firsthand observations could play a vital role in turning conversation into community action!

Calling all OzFishers!

Have you ever noticed an unusual cetacean (dolphin or whale) while offshore dropping a line and thought – ‘never seen one of those before!?’

You guys are the eyes and ears for those back on land for the cetaceans we have using our coastal waters.

Dolphin Research Australia (DRA) is currently conducting surveys to gather as much information as possible about which species of dolphins and whales are visiting our coastline and what they’re getting up to while they’re here.

DRA is calling for the community citizen scientists to help out by recording what they see when out at sea.

Follow instructions on the poster to submit an unusual cetacean sighting.

Happy Boating!

This morning the Tweed Chapter got out on Cudgen Creek to explore and learn about key fish habitats — saltmarsh, mangroves, oyster reefs and seagrass 🌱🦪

We turned the paddle into a citizen science session, learning how these habitats support our fish. Every bit of knowledge helps build a clearer picture of why these ecosystems need protecting. Perfect conditions + awesome crew = great morning out ☀️🚣‍♂️

Thank you to everyone who joined us, and a big thank you to the awesome crew at Watersports Guru, especially Fin who guided us through the morning!

This event was funded by the Recreational Fishing Trust and supported by BCF- Boating, Camping, Fishing.

And that's a wrap on another epic weekend with chapter members spanning far and wide to meet in Roseberry, NSW.

It kicked off with a yarn from Githabul man - David Welsh, followed by riverbank tree planting, a Pimp My Jetty construction demo, and finishing the day with water bugs as ratings for water health. To top it off, we mastered plant ID whilst wandering through a riparian zone and remnant within the Border Rangers. 🌳

New friendships were formed, even after some healthy competition during our trivia and carp comp with some winners taking away some great little prizes. 🎣
