WINNER YOUNG WOMAN OF THE YEAR 2025 sponsored by .collective

Sienna Marshall

My name is Sienna, and I work hard in my studies and consistently achieve honours at Kings Christian College. I was first introduced to the issues of neglect and loneliness of the elderly through my mum who works in the aged care industry. It made my hurt heart because I love my Nanny and Poppy so much and to think of them having no one simply to visit and love them just didn’t make sense. So, I began volunteering in aged care facilities on school holidays in the memory support units from age 13, painting nails, chit chatting, stealing bread to feed the birds and going on field trips. I am immersed in the annual Aged Care We Care Appeal where I help purchase, wrap, pack, and deliver gifts for those who don’t have anyone at Christmas time, showing them the love and kindness they deserve.

WINNER HEART AWARD 2025 Anne Marie Bessel ,

Heart Awards are given to finalists who are recognised for their outstanding impact on their community.

“She always gives her best workmanship and that’s why I loved working with her.

She never stops, she just keeps going.

A resilient woman of 7 in her family, she runs a business and could always get her 5 children off to school so she can be present starting her business at 9am sometimes she’s had to zap off earlier at 7-7:30am to start jobs and has to rely on her husband as best as she could even with his disabilities, she would always do!!

Without complaint or she’ll try organise her few dedicated workers to tap in for her, which she preferred to do allowing us workers to start later.

With all her trials and tribulations I have found Anne Marie to be a striking asset to the NDIS community as she is always there cleaning without judgement she accepts all her customers on an even keel. No person is better or worse she just puts them on the scale of “I need to clean for them” and she delivers the client her best attitude.

She’s prompt, efficient, caring and has an amazing voice that speaks to people stating prices are reflected in her workmanship she delivers.

How many people keep going and going and believe me if you heard her back story you’d drop a tear. As I write this I am.

I believe the people’s selection of Anne Marie taking an award is worth its weight for she has earned it and will continue until her last breath!!”

Melissa Mcguinness,

Heart Awards are given to finalists who are recognised for their outstanding impact on their community.

Melissa is co-founder of YOU CHOOSE Programs, a multi-award winning road trauma and harm prevention not-for-profit which has engaged hundreds of thousands of participants around Australia.

She has been awarded an OAM, 2 x Queensland Australian of the Year runner-ups, Gold Coast Woman of the Year People’s Choice, the Australian Road Safety Foundation Award, an AMP Tomorrow Maker award, and an Australia Day Ambassadorship.

In 2012, Melissa’s son, Jordan, was driving impaired when he collided with a stationary vehicle containing five other young adults. Four of those died on impact, as did Jordan himself. Since 2017, Melissa and husband Peter have worked tirelessly to save communities from road trauma and from all preventable harm.

YOU CHOOSE takes an innovative, social-mission approach to enabling participants as advocates of good choices - stimulating reflection about intentions, choices, actions and the people they love. These student-led philosophies embed enduring harm prevention culture in schools, which has been empirically proven by the Griffith University Criminology Institute to reduce risk-taking intentions and projected behaviours.
