Major Snow Event - Thursday 4 September overnight into Friday 5 September

Snowfall Maps - State-wide

Another Polar surge heading our way over the next 24 hours bringing widespread Low Level snowfall possibly Heavy about the West and Central areas.

A westerly airstream confidently shifts to a southwesterly direction on Thursday morning as a robust cold front sweeps across the state. A high-pressure system is set to move in from the west on Friday morning, crossing Tasmania during Friday afternoon and evening.

Widespread snowfall is now expected down to 100 - 200m about the West, Central Plateau / Highlands, Southwest, Derwent Valley, Southern Midlands, and Southeast during Thursday afternoon and evening. LOCALLY HEAVY SNOWFALL AND BLIZZARDS are likely during Thursday into Friday morning about the West and Central Plateau / Highlands districts. Road closures and significant impacts to road networks are likely Thursday afternoon overnight into Friday morning, including the Midland Highway south of Ross, Huon Highway, Lyell Highway, Murchison Highway, Great Lakes Road, and Cradle Mt areas.

Snowfall is expected above 200 - 300m about the Eastern Ranges and Northeast peaks including Ben Lomond, Mt Barrow, and The Sidelings.

Winter is going out with a bang this year! ❄️

Forecast models including the BoMs Meteye are still holding with widespread snow to lower levels by Saturday morning.
