Here are some things to think about:

Slippery floors, awkward step-ins and low seating can all make daily routines more difficult – and falls in the bathroom are more than twice as likely to result in injury compared to falls in the living room 🚿

On Tuesday, Elders, community members, partners, Board members, staff and friends came together on Worimi Country to celebrate NAIDOC Week and Community Resources being recognised as an Aboriginal-led organisation.

Aunty Lynn’s Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony kicked off the event, before we shared stories over a bush tucker lunch. Our CEO, Martin Paech, spoke about the significance of this milestone and what it means for the future of our organisation.

It was a special day celebrating on Country. Thank you to everyone who shared their time, knowledge and support. Thank you also to Tanya Thompson, NSW State Member for Myall Lakes, for joining us.

As Martin said in his speech:

“Our Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal Board and staff have worked side by side to create an organisation that cares deeply about people, community and Country. We have learnt from one another, challenged ourselves and grown together. As we move into this next chapter, that spirit of partnership remains incredibly important. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to Community Resources’ journey.”

We're proud to announce our recognition as an Aboriginal-led organisation, reflecting our history, purpose and future direction 🎉

Founded on Worimi Country in 1987, our organisation began with a focus on place-based training, employment and community services for Aboriginal people. Providing culturally safe and relevant services has remained central to our mission as we've expanded our work and national footprint.

Being Aboriginal-led means Aboriginal leadership helps guide how we lead, make decisions and approach our work every day, ensuring we're grounded in culture, Country, relationships and real outcomes for communities.

This recognition is backed by strong governance, with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people representing the majority of our Board Directors and membership.

Community Resources will continue operating across Australia through our social enterprises Soft Landing, Resource Recovery Australia and Green Yakka, and our community services Homebase Services, Helping Hands and Great Lakes and Manning Youth Homelessness Service – creating jobs, strengthening communities and caring for Country. Our services, partnerships and programs will continue as usual, with an ongoing commitment to supporting all communities.

Narelle Anderson, Co-Chair of Community Resources, said:

"When services are shaped by the people and places they serve, they are more relevant, trusted and effective. That is how we create stronger, more sustainable outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, culturally diverse communities and all Australians experiencing need."

Happy NAIDOC Week 🖤💛❤️ This year's NAIDOC Week theme, 50 Years of Deadly, celebrates 50 years of recognising the strength, achievements, leadership and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

It honours the Elders, organisers, artists, advocates and communities who have carried NAIDOC forward over the past five decades and helped shape the movement it is today.

Across our organisation, teams will be celebrating on Country – from Worimi Country to Dharug Country, Gubbi Gubbi Country and many more places in between.

We'll be wearing our NAIDOC shirts, attending local events, learning, listening and celebrating alongside the communities we're proud to work with every day.

Here's to 50 Years of Deadly – and the people, stories and communities that continue to shape what comes next 🎉

🏡 We often hear the same thing from new clients: "I wish I'd done this sooner."

Many people put off asking for support because they think it's only for when they're no longer able to manage on their own.

But often it's the opposite.

A bit of help with cleaning, shopping, transport or home maintenance can make everyday life easier and help people stay independent for longer.

Needing a hand now and then isn't giving up independence. It's finding the right support to keep doing the things that matter 🤝🏡
