It's our 5th birthday today! Can you believe that we had to open the Tumbarumba to Rosewood Rail Trail virtually due to Covid restrictions?
We had big plans for the day but in the end it had to be a series of video messages from our volunteers, supporters and friends and opened from afar by Justin Clancy MP.
In those five years our lives have all changed and although at first only locals could use the rail trail due to travel restrictions, we have since welcomed many many thousands to our region.
As volunteers we've planted trees, and more trees, we've celebrated our unofficial opening a year later in 2021 with a family funday, planted more trees, been approved as a marathon distance, hosted a marathon (organised by a team from Wagga and SVC), welcomed the Snowy Valleys Cycle challenge each year, had the Men's Shed and Historical Society members built a Fettler display at Rosewood, the Men's Shed also rebuilt the sidings at Rosewood and Glenroy, welcomed the 50000th riders at the Tumbarumba and Rosewood counters, witnessed the amazing job of the Men's Shed and other groups collaborate to renovate the railway carriage and move it into place at the trail head - just a few of the happenings over the years!
Our volunteer committee have worked with staff from Snowy Valleys Council, and many volunteers Men's Shed, Historical Society, Rotary with their triobikes, local schools, Tumut Rotary - just to name a few.
We're proud of our achievements!
Thanks you to everyone who has been a supporter, a visitor, a helper over the past five years - you have made our first rail trail in NSW (on government land) a huge success and we couldn't be happier to be the pilot.
Thanks too for supporting our local businesses in dark times and good.
Feel free to share your favourite stories or photos of your time on our rail trail, and we hope to see you again in the future.
