A small but meaningful collaboration has taken place this week in Tully between the residents of the Tully Nursing Home Inc, the Tully and District Men’s Shed and the Tully RSL.

Last week, Dave Smith, a well-known resident who helps maintain the gardens and grounds of the nursing home, contacted the Men's Shed seeking advice on how to refurbish a memorial located at the facility. The memorial, a wooden post bearing the words “Lest We Forget,” had become worn and weathered over time and was in need of some attention.

The nursing home is home to a number of veterans, and also to family members of those who never returned from service and those who have since passed. The memorial holds particular significance for these residents.

Al Coenik, who is a member of both the RSL Sub Branch and the Men’s Shed, responded quickly. He collected the post and he and Angelo Dibella began work on restoring it, applying their skills to bring it back into good condition.

The refurbished memorial will be returned to the nursing home and the accoutrement's and cross refitted in time for a service scheduled to begin at 10:30am on Friday, 24 April, conducted by Paul Boswell DSM, Tully RSL. Veterans, residents, family members, friends and staff are all invited to attend.

This effort reflects the practical support that local organisations can provide when working together within the community.

A big thank you to the Gambling Community Benefit Fund Queensland for helping us get our new Big Ass Fans installed at the Tully and District Men’s Shed—what a difference they’ve already made! Check out the big boys below!

We’d also like to thank Cassowary Coast Regional Council for their support and sponsorship of the project.

We’re now working on the next stage, setting up an air-conditioned recreation room for our Shedders, which will make the space even more comfortable and usable all year round.

Really appreciate the support—projects like this don’t happen without it.

The Tully and District Men's Shed will be heading up to the Mt Garnet Race Day and Rodeo Long Weekend, and we are looking forward to being part of a great few days.

We will be collecting cans and bottles throughout the event and we would really appreciate the support of everyone attending. If you have empties, please think of us and drop them in the containers you will see throughout the park.

All proceeds from the returned cans and bottles will to directly back into supporting the Shed and the work we do in the community.

Thanks in advance to the Mt Garnet community for the support and we hope to see you there.

A Big Thank You to Nutrien Ag & FRRR 👏

The Tully & District Men’s Shed would like to sincerely thank Nutrien Ag and the Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal (FRRR) for their generous $5,000 grant.

Thanks to this support, we’ve been able to replace damaged guttering and C-purlins at the Shed. It might not be the 'sexiest' project, but it’s a crucial one—these repairs help keep the Shed dry, safe, and usable for our members and the wider community.

This funding has helped protect the Shed so it can continue to be a place where men connect, work together, and support one another. We’re incredibly grateful for the investment in our Shed and in our community.

Thank you again for backing grassroots organisations and practical projects that make a real difference in regional communities. 🙏
