KNOTbound is enormously pleased to announce that Gerry Ebert has joined the organisation as a General Director on the Board of Directors. Gerry approached KNOTbound in November and after much discussion and an intense grilling by current members of the Board, Gerry was voted in unanimously and with much enthusiasm. He brings a wealth of skill and experience to the organisation, both in kink, from his experience running his own businesses and from managing others.

Gerry has proven himself a powerhouse in his previous work in our communities. As a founding member of Adelaide Leather & Fe**sh, in 2015 he helped create an organisation which single handedly revitalised the Leather and fe**sh community in South Australia. He was recognised as a dedicated Leatherman by the Adelaide community in 2016 when he won the first Mr Adelaide Leather title and by the wider Australian Leather community when he won the inaugural Australian Leatherman title in 2017. His platform was focused on putting South Australia back on the fe**sh map and bringing all of the Leather communities of Australia together. After completing his obligations as Mr Adelaide Leather 2016, he was nominated to be the president of Adelaide Leather & Fe**sh, and, with other pillars of the Australian Leather Community, helped create the first national Leather float for Mardi Gras 40.

In 2017 Gerry also competed at International Mr Leather 39, and created GEAR’D, Adelaide’s first dedicated leather and fe**sh weekend which is still running annually. Not wanting to rest on his accomplishments, he also helped create and run Dorothy’s Dungeon, a monthly camp fe**sh night for the Adelaide community. As a finishing touch to 2017, Gerry was awarded the Most Popular Male in South Australia award. In March 2019 he was also nominated for the Hero Award at the Australian LGBTI Awards in Sydney. We are not surprised!

Gerry can be seen regularly at interstate fe**sh events where he continues to make his presence known. From judging at Corium in Brisbane, to helping out at APHC in Melbourne, to raising funds for charities like Beyond Blue, focussing on mental health issues in the LGBTI community, and using his own experiences to mentor, Gerry shows his commitment to helping our Leather and kink communities and people be the best that they can be.

As the KNOTbound Board welcomes Gerry to the organisation, we are confident that we will grow and thrive in new and exciting ways as he brings his skills, drive, ideas and commitment to our programs.

Welcome Skye Bartlett!

Skye Bartlett - KNOTbound Cultural Preservation Program Manager

We are extremely pleased to announce our new Cultural Preservation Program Manager, Skye Bartlett. We believe that the breadth and depth of knowledge Skye brings to KNOTbound and the Australian B**M Archives will launch us into a new era of historical collection and preservation of our B**M communities across Australia.

Skye is a person of many talents and interests. Self described as a photographer, Leatherman, post-modern cowboy, sexual health activist, husband, partner, cat lover, fashion historian and curator, tea drinker, lasagna aficionado, and Mr. Adelaide Leather 2022, he has been involved in the Australian Leather community for over 20 years. He is a founding member of Adelaide Leather and Fe**sh, the creator of the Mr Adelaide Leather title in 2016 and the Ms Adelaide Leather title in 2018. He has been highly involved in supporting people living with HIV in South Australia, primarily supporting the Bobby Goldsmith Foundation to reduce stigma and decrease social isolation.

An award-winning photographer, Skye is the author of two photography books. "One Last Look" is a body of work celebrating members of the Australian and international Leather scene through constructionist portraiture. "Silhouettes: Fashion in the Shadow of HIV/AIDS", was created in conjunction with a world first exhibition for The David Roche Foundation of the same name that he curated. He also created and curated "Provocateur: Fe**sh Through the Photographer’s Lens", which features works from talented photographers around the world specialising or dabbling in the art of fe**sh and kink photography. Provocateur has raised thousands of dollars for the Bobby Goldsmith Foundation SA.

Skye is a textile / fashion collector and historian, custodian of an important historic fashion collection, and a benefactor of The Art Gallery of South Australia. With a special interest in AIDS history, in 2020–2021 he curated an exhibition of the South Australian AIDS Memorial Quilt with the History Trust of SA, which was revived for the Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Centre in 2022. In 2024 he also was instrumental in bringing to life the exhibition, "Style & Spirit: The Fashion of Chester Weinberg", the first high profile fashion designer to pass away from AIDS in 1985.

CALL OUT TO OUR NETWORK

We are work to assist the producer of a tv series in finding specific people who would be willing to talk with them and possibly be on the show.

They have connected in a lot of areas but would love to add someone to the show who is kinky and has a significant physical disability. They would like to understand kink from this perspective.

Today is IDAHOBIT day around the world (if it's the 17th of May where you are yet).

Today is also another celebration day for KNOTbound. KNOTbound received official ACNC recognition as an established charity and was entered into the charity register. This was a big moment for us and one that we worked for over a year to accomplish.

Being a charity opens doors to many opportunities and connections we would otherwise struggle to have. Our volunteers worked tirelessly on the application only to have to spend months answering additional questions.

Today we are very proud to celebrate our 9th anniversary as a charity in Australia over 11 years operation as an official organisation.

It has always seemed extra special that our anniversary should coincide with such an important day for the LGBTIQIA+ communities.

For those that are connected to us and continue to support us, thank you. We will be moving into new opportunities for this next year and can't wait to share with you.

Building Stronger Connections

We are very excited to announce that in collaboration with Monash University’s Special Collections, KNOTbound now has digital copies of the Australia magazine Paddles Vol 1-1 through 2-8. These expands our current collection with rare editions.

We have had recent positive conversations with LAM (Leather Archives and Museum) in Chicago with a view of providing greater visibility of Australian artifacts and history being held in their collection.

We are also sponsoring JOY’s radiothon by providing prizes and reaching out to Thorne Harbour Health to see if we can assist in the Northside Bazaar fundraiser in October.

Finally, we are working with “You Can’t Ask That” to assist them in connecting with people in the community for a new series.

KNOTbound has always been about strengthening our community and will be reaching out to more organisations this year to see how we can better support each other.

Sydney Leather Pride May 1994

We recently found and acquired an issue of the extremely rare ALM (Australian Leather Magazine). We have digital copies only of some of the earlier magazines. The early magazines were quite small but increased to a full size magazine later. Our earliest digital copy is Vol A #4 1991.

Below is an image of the 1994 Sydney Leather Pride event schedule. This gives us a rare glimpse into the past to showcase the vibrant community that existed at the time.
