🔎La Trobe University and the Olga Tennison Autism Research Centre are conducting a study to learn more about families’ experiences with health and community supports for babies with early signs of social of communication differences.

🔎Researchers at QIMR Berghofer are looking for GPs to refer patients with new-onset diabetes to the PaC-NOD Pilot Study. This pilot is a first step toward testing whether screening newly diagnosed diabetes patients for pancreatic cancer could lead to earlier diagnosis and better outcomes.

Held from 15-21 June, Men’s Health Week is an opportunity to highlight the importance of men’s health and support the wellbeing of men and boys in our communities.

This week focuses not only on physical health, but also mental health and emotional wellbeing. It is a chance to raise awareness about the health challenges faced by men and encourage conversations about what can be done to improve health outcomes.

📊Men are at higher risk of health conditions like heart disease, diabetes and certain cancers, while mental health concerns such as depression and anxiety continue to affect many men across Australia.

This week is all about starting real conversations, supporting the men in our lives and encouraging healthier habits.

We’ve released Tell Gippsland PHN Update May 2026, capturing community, stakeholder and health sector feedback that highlights opportunities to improve health and wellbeing across the region.

Opportunities identified:

🔎Improve access to psychosocial supports and service navigation
🔎Strengthen culturally safe care
🔎Create a more connected system with inclusive digital options
🔎Tailor services for people with complex health needs, including where non-medical factors are involved
🔎Boost mental health and wellbeing supports for young people

Trauma-Informed Care recognises the widespread impact of trauma and focuses on safety, trust and emotional regulation.

Understanding trauma helps professionals respond effectively to challenging behaviours and avoid re-traumatisation.

🟢🟡Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) M10 item group has expanded to include stuttering, speech sound disorders, and cleft lip and palate for people under 25 with complex neurodevelopmental conditions or eligible disabilities.

Eligible children and young people will be able to access Medicare rebated assessments and treatment from a speech pathologist with a valid referral from a GP, consultant physician or specialist.

✅Patients will benefit from greater access to speech pathology support, with reduced out of pocket costs, easing the financial burden of assessment and ongoing therapy.
