Make sure you have your say on the Droughty Peninsula Structure Plan. The good, the bad and the ugly!

How will the Droughty Peninsula be developed over the next 20+ years?

We have worked with private landowners, service providers, the Tasmanian Aboriginal advisors, and the Clarence community to develop the draft Droughty Peninsula Structure Plan.

All feedback has helped create a draft plan to guide staged development of the area, allowing for controlled growth in four separate stages across the entire peninsula.

It includes:
🏘️ a mix of housing
👩‍👦 services, including childcare and aged care
🚗 planning for traffic and reliable public transport
🚶‍♀️ a connected foreshore, with walking and cycling options
🌿 parks and open spaces.

A quick update for those planning an early start tomorrow morning to watch history unfold... 🌊

Due to more favourable weather conditions later in the week, the decision has been made to postpone the loading of Hull 096 onto the heavy lift vessel Black Marlin until Friday morning.

Thank you to everyone who's been following this historic operation. We look forward to sharing some great images and drone footage from Friday's loading operation once it's complete.

Droughty Point Structure plan update

Whats wrong with DP Structure Plan? Asks Cr Tony Mulder

1. The mixed use zone (commercial and residential) are too large and have no height limits. There’s nothing to stop multiple high apartment blocks 7 stories or more, with a coffee shop on the ground floor. More suited to Hobart CBD than remoye putpost. They should be much smaller and surrounded by inner-residential (small lots) with a standard height limit.

2. Then there's the extensive landslide areas that require further investigation. As an area wide land slip, like Rosetta, the engineering must be done at a landscape scale long before we start building individual buildings.

3. A single entry road will connect it to Tollard Drive, not Droughty Point Rd. The landslip might be fixed if there were two roads benched into the hill with drainage. One connecting to Droughty Pt Rd, the other to Tollard. All this wont be known till the studies are done, making the structure plan premature.

As we fast approach a new year, Friends of Tranmere and Droughty Peninsula is seeking locals who are passionate about our community and interested in connecting with other great people to help volunteer and represent local interests.

Whether your interest lies in our local environment, community development, or simply bringing people together, we would love to hear from you. New year also means new ideas, so we welcome everyone!

It’s important that local voices help inform Council and other stakeholders on issues that matter to our area. Our group has been active for the past four years and has developed strong, constructive and respected working relationships.
