With the possibility of a cyclone now is the time to be ensuring everyone has refilled anything in their kits they may have raided over the last month like spare milk etc, cleaning up their yards and checking on friends and family if they need any assistance. With that said ๐Ÿ‘‡

An important reminder during the monsoon season in regards to the disability and elderly community members

Severe weather hits everyone differently and for people living with disability, chronic illness, mobility challenges, or for many elderly folks, it can add an extra layer of stress that others donโ€™t always see.

Preparation often takes more time, more energy, and sometimes comes with real physical limits. Things like making sure meds are nearby, having food thatโ€™s easy to prepare, or planning for power outages can be a lot when your body already has its own challenges.

And something that I really want to highlight having my own lived experience with disability ๐Ÿ‘‡

please donโ€™t assume someone โ€œhas a carerโ€ during events like this.

Support workers may need to stay home with their own families, shifts arenโ€™t always scheduled in the lead-up to weather events, and some people only receive support once a week not daily. Many people are navigating these moments completely on their own.

If youโ€™re able-bodied or have a bit of spare capacity, this is where community care shows up. A check-in message, helping secure loose items, or offering a hand with clean-ups after the weather passes can mean more than you realise.

Needing help doesnโ€™t mean someone didnโ€™t prepare and in a lot of cases they may have had a plan that has fallen through. Many disabilities, chronic illnesses and physical challenges are not physically visible to others and not everyone has mobility aids.

If you can help, please do. Not everyone is comfortable asking for help - c

As a fellow club that supported the district Project of Camp Kanga. It is indeed a sad day to hear that the financial burden has become too much....

Townsville will experience king tides this week, with the

These higher-than-usual tides may cause water to inundate low-lying areas, including:
โœ… Railway Estate
โœ… South Townsville
โœ… Hermit Park
โœ… Parts of the CBD (Hanran Street, Ogden Street)

What you can do:
โœ” Move vehicles and belongings to higher ground
โœ” Avoid driving through saltwater โ€“ it can damage your vehicle and create safety hazards

King tides are a natural event, but

Weโ€™re thrilled to announce that the Together Townsville partnership with the Community Information Centre Townsville and Mercure Townsville will proudly continue throughout 2026. Now entering its fifth year, this collaboration has become a cornerstone of community connection in our region โ€” and we couldnโ€™t be more excited to keep the momentum going.
For the past four years, Mercure Townsville has been the perfect home for our Together Townsville Networking Events. Its central location, welcoming atmosphere, excellent coffee, and diverse range of facilities have made it an ideal venue for bringing people together. Just as importantly, the General Manager Michael Rignall and the Mercure team share our belief in the power of community connection and the value of uniting and inspiring the business and community sectors.

Our monthly networking events will continue to be held on the first Wednesday of each month from February to November, offering ten opportunities across the year for local businesses, community groups, organisations, and clubs to connect.

Whether you're a small business owner, part of a business or community organisation, or simply someone passionate about strengthening local ties, these events are designed for you. We know from experience that Townsville thrives when we take the time to get to know one another โ€” to understand what each of us brings to the table and how we can support one another.
For businesses, especially those with a growing workforce, staying connected to local services, programs, and community initiatives is invaluable. These events provide a relaxed, welcoming environment to build those connections.

Community doesnโ€™t happen by accident. It grows when people show up, share stories, exchange ideas, and build relationships. Together Townsville was created with that simple belief at its core โ€” and year after year, we see the impact of what happens when people come together with intention.

Weโ€™re looking forward to another fantastic year of collaboration with Mercure Townsville. Our first networking event for 2026 will be held on:

We canโ€™t wait to welcome familiar faces and new ones alike as we continue building a more connected, informed, and supportive Townsville community.

Hereโ€™s to another year of coming together โ€” because when our community connects, we all thrive.
