North Barrier Branch Surf Life Saving North Barrier Branch is the second Northern most Branch of Surf Life Saving Queensland.

North Barrier Branch was established in 1936 and is home to seven Surf Life Saving Clubs. The clubs of North Barrier Branch patrol the beaches between Sarina (near Mackay) in the south and Forrest Beach (near Ingham) in the North, in environments varying from open beaches to rocky island coves, surrounded by reef and the added uniqueness that comes with Tropical Waters. ears of proud history servicing the public and up-holding the Surf Life Saving Queensland vision of ‘Zero Preventable deaths in Queensland Waters’. North Barrier Branch is proudly part of this wonderful, iconic institution, Surf Life Saving Australia. Surf Life Saving Australia has over 100 years experience in protecting peoples’ lives and you should feel proud to become a member of this association and its proud tradition. You will join over 34, 000 people, across 56 clubs within six Branches in Queensland who all contribute their time to Surf Life Saving and provide a valuable community service. As a member of Surf Life Saving there are many rewarding opportunities available to you that will allow you to contribute to the community, develop life and leadership skills, improve fitness, cultivate youth and to interact with a wide network of people. Nowhere else in the world is there an organisation which combines humanitarian goals, with elite competition. The North Barrier Branch provides a range of surf life saving advisory, operational and administrative functions to its affiliation clubs, local government, emergency services and the community.

Are you ready to take the next step in lifesaving and join the front line of Operations Support?

We’re looking for dedicated members to become Rescue Water Craft (RWC) Operators in North Barrier – a vital role in keeping our community safe. 🛟❤️💛

This is your chance to challenge yourself, gain advanced skills, and make a real impact on the water. 💪🌊

🔑 Minimum Qualifications:
✔️ 18 years of age
✔️ PWC License
✔️ Bronze Medallion
✔️ Advanced Resuscitation Techniques
✔️ First Aid
✔️ C Class Driver’s License

Another year of the annual NBB Bronze & SRC Camp complete✅

22 U14 and 16 U17 members from across 5 of our clubs spent the week training at Alma Bay gaining either their Bronze Medallion or Surf Rescue Certificate as well as other awards including First Aid, Advanced Resus & Marine Stinger❤️💛

For our SRCs they will be entering the patrol season as new lifesavers and will patrol the beach with their club for the first time! And for our Bronzies, they have developed their lifesaving skills further and will be heading back on patrol with new awards🏖️

Thank you to all our chaperones, helpers and trainers for making this camp possible! Shoutout to Arcadian SLSC for hosting us at their beautiful Alma Bay clubhouse🛟

Recently North Barrier Branch received a $17,562 grant from the to better equip our lifesavers to respond to disasters and emergencies. The grant included procurement of specialised PPE, rescue equipment and a rescue raft. In the off season, members of our Special Response Teams (flood responders), participated in a SAREX which put our new equipment to the test. We thank and for supporting NBB in strengthening our capabilities.

🚨Calling all U11-U15 NBB Members🚨

The 2026 North Barrier Branch Youth State Team EOI is now open!

The 2026 NBB Youth State Team will be selected from results from the following carnivals. To display a commitment to supporting our branch, the Surf Sports Committee and selectors will need to see attendance at no less than 4 carnivals over the season.

1 - Picnic Bay Carnival - 9th August 2025
2 - Sarina Carnival - 30th August 2025
3 - Arcadian Carnival - 20/21st September 2025
4 - Forrest Beach Carnival - 11/12th October 2025
5 - North Australian Championships, Mackay - 31st Oct to 2nd Nov 2025 (Attendance recommended)
6 - NB Branch Champs, Eimeo - 22/23rd November 2025 (Attendance recommended)

NB - exemption/s may be applied for special circumstances, communication with Branch via email is essential.

The 2026 NBB Youth State Team will be announced following NB Branch Championships.

All FORMS must be completed and return to Branch by Monday 13 October 2025.

With over 80 competitors from 6 of our NBB clubs, this one day water carnival was a great way to kick off the new season💛❤️

Total overall point score/Average point score per competitor:
Arcadian: 615/16.1 - 37 competitors
Ayr: 256/14.2 - 18 competitors
Eimeo: 18/18 - 1 competitor (1 age group)
Forrest Beach: 11/5.5 - 2 competitors

Over the weekend, we held the inaugural Townsville Fastest on the Sand Beach Event!!

We saw some incredible talent and speed displayed on the beach throughout the day in flags, sprints, long distance runs and beach relay events🏃
