What makes a Rugby Club successful are its traditions, its history and its culture. 🏈🙌🏻
North Ward Rugby Club are developing new traditions each year and are nurturing our Juniors through their ranks so they can step into Seniors with a strong sense of our values and our pride in the red, blue and gold.
We want our Juniors to know the men and women who made us who we are, the characters that remain with the Club years after they have tied on their boots for the last time, those responsible for the culture, the family and the backbone of North Ward Rugby Club.
Tomorrow’s Seniors games at Casalegno Field against Burdekin Rugby Union Canetoads have great sentimental value to our Old Boys as 2nd Grade play for the Joseph Acton Memorial Shield.
To remember Joseph and his lasting legacy the Burdekin and NWRC play for the Joseph Acton Memorial Shield in reserve grade each year. Since 2012, the shield has been fought for in the Burdekin as an away trip for all who knew Joseph. Each year the match is always played in the spirit of how Joey played the game - tough, physical, with plenty of grit and always with a few laughs here and there.
"Joey was invaluable to the team, he was the guy that every club needed, who was committed to every session, every game, every week and if needed he would play every grade. He was the heart of the club, on the club committee, the social convener and was just good mates with everyone"
Good luck to our traveling Seniors tomorrow, let’s bring Joey’s shield home to North Ward loud and proud in 2026!💪🏻❤️💙💛
