πŸ† It was an honour to even be nominated for the 2026 Community Volunteering Program Impact Award, but even more so to be presented with the award by Volunteering North Queensland.
We received this award for our efforts over the last few years with disaster response, enviromental clean-ups, mental health initiatives, and more.

πŸ… We are also extremely proud of our own Madi for being nominated for and receiving the Youth Volunteer of the Year Award. She was presented with this for her immense commitment and drive over the past year she's been with us, including her incredible MHFA Trivia Fundraiser last year, while serving remote communities for months at a time. Unfortunately she was unable to accept the award in person, as she was once again serving these remote communities. She is extremely deserving of this award and we are so proud to call her a Florence Bay Rover.

πŸŽ‰ Thank you so much to all our supporters. This means a great deal to all our members.

Florence Bay Rovers had a huge weekend! β˜€οΈ

Chloe, Will and Crispy headed out with our groups across Kennedy Region for Trailjam (previously Jamboree on the Trail) at Alligator Creek. Kennedy Region Scouts tackled hike options of 4km, 8km and 18km, and had a wonderful day of adventure in the great outdoors πŸ₯ΎπŸ§

Madi, Owen, Nathan, Renae and Connor all headed out to Tarmaroo Campsite to tackle some much needed clean up at the Rover campsite and Rover shed, ahead of NorthLEAP! The team combed through a massive collection of Rover memorabilia and started setting up our 70th anniversary display!πŸͺŽπŸŒ³ Chloe and Crispy joined the party on Saturday afternoon, when we played some music trivia and had some great laughs 🎢

To finish off our weekend, we invested Nathan and Connor at our freshly tidied up Rover campsite, a wonderful celebration to close out a massive weekend! Congratulations to our newest 2 Rovers 🎊

Hats off to a fantastic, jam-packed weekend!!!

This week, Florence Bay Rovers split up and covered 2 activities!
Some of our Rovers went to and tackled some bouldering and rock climbing πŸ§—πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ We learnt how to do safe falls, and challenged ourselves to start easy, but work our way up to harder climbs! πŸ’ͺ🏼
Our other Rovers attended Loam Island Scout Group for their Group transition night for all sections, and helped out with assembling and supervising the rope bridge! πŸͺ’ It was an incredible turn out for the Group and we were proud to attend to represent Florence Bay Rovers 🫢🏼
Another fantastic week for the books!

Last night, the Florence Bay Rovers grabbed our torches (and umbrellas!) and visited one of our local beaches for iNaturalist Night!

🌧️ To start our night (and to wait out the rain) we shared some interesting facts about different wildlife and consulted Google to dive deeper into our discussions. Interesting fact of the night: Sharks and stingrays are β€œmade of nosesβ€πŸ‘ƒπŸΌ (They have no bones, only cartilage!)

πŸ¦€ Once the rain eased off, we took a walk along the beach to try and find some critters - we found some frogs, birds and lots of crabs (and their homes!), almost walked right into a spiderweb πŸ•·οΈ and we found some cicada shells in the trees!

A fantastic night reconnecting with the outdoors! 🐸

πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ί Australia Day Awards πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ί

We are very proud of our Rover, Madi, who was nominated for both the Community Volunteer of the Year and Young Citizen of the Year at the Townsville Australia Day Awards today. She's the first Florence Bay Rover to be nominated for these awards.

Madi has only been a Rover since last March, but in that time has already earned her position as one of the most respected and beloved among her peers. As a passionate advocate for Mental Health, Madi spearheaded efforts which raised close to $4,000 to secure training in Mental Health First Aid.

She is also a dedicated Cub Scout Leader with Belgian Gardens Scout Group, a committed blood donor, and gives her time assisting with volunteer efforts across Townsville. As a testament to her drive, Madi did all this during a year where her job saw her doing relief work throughout remote parts of Queensland for weeks at a time.
She exemplifies the very best of Australian community spirit: resilience, selflessness, and determination to make life better for others.

While she did not come away with either award this year, she did receive an Honourable Achievement mention from the committee, and the fact she received both these nominations show how loved she is within her local community.
As far as we're concerned, Madi is an incredible woman deserving of recognition for all her work, and we're proud to call her a Florence Bay Rover.
