Uniting Early Learning Riverview

Uniting Early Learning Riverview Riverview Play Centre is working to be Townsville's most flexible Child Care Centre, where families, childcare and education go hand in hand.

We aim to provide 'take-a-break' care for parents of children aged birth through to 5 years. Riverview Play Centre is an occasional day care centre and we are licensed by the Office of Early Childhood Education and Care. Riverview is licensed for 38 children a day, 5 days a week, 48 week of the year, under the Child Care Act 2002 and the Child Care Regulations of 2003. Our three groups of children

are
1. Baby Toddler Unit - babies and toddlers until they turn 2
2. Junior Kindy - These children turn 3 during the year
3. Pre-Prep - These children turn 4 or 5 during the year. If your child needs a little longer in their room we leave them. If the child needs more challenges we move them a little sooner. Moving a child is in joint consultation with parents, staff and vacancy availability.

Do you know what a play schema is?

A play schema occurs when babies, toddlers and young children engage in repeated actions or behaviours as they explore concepts, objects and their environment. These repeated behaviours, called schemas are not random; they reflect a child’s curiosity and help them make sense of how things work. Schemas can appear in all types of play, from arts and crafts to physical activities, and they provide insight into a child’s interests and learning style.

In junior kindy today there was lots of rotation play schema as the children explored wheels turning and spinning and rolling trains along the tracks.

The magnetic blocks and cars were used to explore enclosing play schema as the children created boundaries to enclose the objects and then break them apart to rebuild.

📚Reading to children strengthens language development, builds vocabulary, enhances brain connectivity, improves empathy and deepens caregiver-child bond, with research showing that reading daily can expose children to up to one million or more words by age three. What a powerful tool a book can be! 📚

Last week we combined our book week celebrations with the Premier’s Reading Challenge. Across all rooms in five days the children read 24 different books!! We are looking forward to getting our certificate sent to us later in the year.

🌟What’s happening today across the centre?🌟

Nursery: the babies are having so much fun exploring their fine motor skills, look at them clipping and unclipping the big strawberries.

Junior Kindy: Fine motor exploration and creativity, what is their interpretation of the plant on the table? 🌿

Kindy: We have busy little learners in this room with self-portraits, cause and effect experiences with vinegar, bi-carb and food colouring, reading and numbers

🕷️DEADLY AUSTRALIANS🐍

The kindergarten children had a visit with Marc Dorse from Deadly Australians today.

This informative presentation was aimed at helping children become more aware of the venomous creatures we have living in our backyards and what to do if we see them.

The children also experienced getting up close with a blue-tongued lizard and a turtle.

😎Optical2you Visit😎

Our Kindy children had a visit from the optometrist this morning to test their eyes. It’s a wonderful opportunity for the children to have their eye exam in a familiar environment, convenient for busy families to have testing done without cutting into family time and if there are any issues they can be picked up before the children head off to big school, ensuring the best possible start to their schooling.
