Uniting Early Learning Riverview

Uniting Early Learning Riverview Riverview Play Centre is working to be Townsville's most flexible Child Care Centre, where families, childcare and education go hand in hand.

We aim to provide 'take-a-break' care for parents of children aged birth through to 5 years. Riverview Play Centre is an occasional day care centre and we are licensed by the Office of Early Childhood Education and Care. Riverview is licensed for 38 children a day, 5 days a week, 48 week of the year, under the Child Care Act 2002 and the Child Care Regulations of 2003. Our three groups of children

are
1. Baby Toddler Unit - babies and toddlers until they turn 2
2. Junior Kindy - These children turn 3 during the year
3. Pre-Prep - These children turn 4 or 5 during the year. If your child needs a little longer in their room we leave them. If the child needs more challenges we move them a little sooner. Moving a child is in joint consultation with parents, staff and vacancy availability.

Meet our Kindergarten Teacher! 👋 Say hi to Ms Gurmeet.

Gurmeet has been with us for almost 6 months now and her superpower is the passion she has for supporting the children in their growth and development. Since having her own child Gurmeet feels strongly about educators working collaboratively with children and families to help them reach their full potential.

When Gurmeet isn't in the classroom, she likes to spend time exploring and visiting new places and reading. Gurmeet's favourite sport is basketball and fun fact; she was on her high school team in India.

💡Just playing in the sandpit? 💡

There is so much more going on, fine motor development which is very important in preparing children for pre-writing skills, early mathematical concepts with filling containers and pouring, sensory exploration as children explore textures of wet and dry sand and of course the social aspect of playing alongside friends.

The kindergarten curriculum is presently focused on sustainability and environmental education, commencing with a humble gardening experience that has blossomed into a more extensive examination through inquiry-based learning and shared understanding.

So much fun and learning across the Centre today. The Nursery children are having lots of opportunities to explore their emerging physical development with tummy time experiences, the older children are exploring texture and movement with feathers.
Junior Kindy have made their own mud paints and are exploring Aboriginal symbols through art experiences. And Kindergarten are exploring Wombat Stew by recreating parts of the book with a group sensory experience.

What an exciting morning!

We had Dental2You visit our Centre today and give our little people a dental check. They were all amazing little superstars that were eager to brush Dino’s teeth and then jump up onto the dental chair to have their checks done. Our Kindy teachers set up dental learning experiences prior to the visit to help the children understand what was going to happen 🌟

💛🌿There are so many wonderful people who make our centres feel like home.

Here’s someone we’d love you to meet ✨

Say hello to Jo, Centre Director at Uniting Early Learning Riverview 💛

Jo brings over 20 years of experience in early childhood education, with a career that began in Family Day Care - and a passion for supporting children that has only grown stronger ever since. ✨

She cares deeply about creating a safe and welcoming space where every child feels supported to learn and grow, and where their unique strengths can shine. 🌼
For Jo, families are at the heart of everything. She values the trust parents place in her each day and loves working alongside them - knowing it truly takes a village to raise a child. 💛

She’s passionate about building a centre community where everyone feels they belong, and where children, families and educators are all part of each child’s learning journey. 🤗

Jo is also looking forward to connecting with local families, schools and community groups, continuing to build strong and supportive relationships across the Riverview community. 🌿✨

✨ Fun fact: Before her career in early childhood, Jo spent nearly 10 years in the Army - bringing a unique perspective and strength into the way she leads today.

If you see Jo around the centre, be sure to say hello - she loves getting to know families and being part of each child’s journey. 👋💛

Last week our Kindergarten children set up a worm farm as a part of learning about life cycles and environmental sustainability. Today some of our children helped Ms Jo check on the worms, they’ve been very busy eating their way through the food scraps, so we’ve added some more.

🐸A Big Leap🐸
Fern the Frog visited our centre today for a fun interactive show to help the children begin to understand life cycles, water cycles, the environment and sustainability. There was lots of laughter and the children were eager to help decide which bins the rubbish should go in.
