Starting out as a chicken sanctuary in 2016 we are now home to chickens, ducks, pigs, guinea fowl, turkeys, geese and injured/orphaned wildlife.

Little Jack was injured, we believe by a goanna, and taken straight to the vet (uncensored photo in the comments). He lay on his side like this for a full week, even on pain meds and antibiotics he just couldn't tolerate a different position, and certainly couldn't stand up even though he has no fractures.

A week in we started his physio, starting with using a wheelchair in increasing duration until he could comfortably do 15 to 20 minutes. In that sitting position he could eat and drink better and has definitely turned a corner ♡ we'll keep you updated on this little boy's recovery

Little Ghost has arrived in Brisbane! You may recall a little blind hen living in Gladstone at Emma's Chooks who was looking for her forever home as the other hens were not treating her too kindly. Since we have a tiny flock (2) of blind chickens we offered to be that forever home.

Since a lift couldnt be secured, Rooster Rescue & Rehoming Nth Qld have organised with Emma for Ghost to fly to Townsville. A generous donor, Michelle, donated the full flight amount!!

Some people start their day with coffee and a croissant. We started ours with coffee, a croissant... and a hostage negotiation 🤣

We wandered out to let the boys out of their coop bright and early, only to discover that one of their teddy bear "girlfriends" had apparently been loved with such enthusiasm that they had busted open the seams and there were Styrofoam beads all over the floor.

We had to clean up quickly because the roosters will eat the Styrofoam.

And in comes Tex.

Tex is about the size of a feather duster with legs, but he possesses the confidence of a six-foot security guard. He's also one of our resident serial stalkers. While we were trying to explain that removing tiny Styrofoam beads from the coop was, in fact, in everyone's best interests, he slowly herded us into a corner like a seasoned sheepdog.

Realising diplomacy had failed, he was scooped up and had the hug-of-shame.

So that's how we found ourselved spending the morning sitting in the dirt, one fluffy little rooster tucked under one arm like an indignant handbag, while half a dozen of his mates gave some side-eye...all the while still picking little Styrofoam balls out of the dirt!

People often ask what life at a sanctuary is like. Sometimes it's profound. Sometimes it's heartbreaking....

And sometimes you're holding a tiny tough rooster while you dig in the dirt ❤️

It's the little things. ❤️🐔

Hi all. This beautiful blind hen is hopefully coming to Connie's Coop to live with a little blind flock that already lives out at Connie’s Coop. We are putting the feelers out for transport for her from Rockhampton to Townsville and we are hoping that we have some followers that maybe travelling either the whole way or part of the way. Please reach out if you can help in any way ❤️❤️❤️
