FINALIST
Honoured and incredibly grateful to be nominated and a Finalist for the 2026 Volunteer of the Year Award at the Volunteering North Queensland 2026 Volunteer of the Year Awards.
Volunteering has always been about giving back to the community, supporting others, and making a positive difference wherever possible. I’m proud to be part of the amazing work happening through the Craig’s On Foundation and alongside so many passionate volunteers across North Queensland.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has supported, encouraged, and inspired me along the way. Congratulations to all the nominees — the work you do for our communities truly matters. 💛

🎙️ Kathleen Walsh – Predator at the Pulpit

⚠️ TRIGGER WARNING: Child abuse & su***de

This one isn’t easy to write…
but it needs to be said.

A man abuses children…
not one… not two…
dozens.

And walks away with a sentence that doesn’t even come close
to the damage done.

HE GOT 90 DAYS…
SHE GOT A LIFETIME.

Let that sit with you.

Because while he serves time…
she lives it.

Every day.
Every memory.
Every trigger.
Every moment of trying to feel normal again.

Next week, I sit down with Kathleen Walsh

A survivor.
A fighter.
A woman who was pushed to the absolute edge…
and chose to stay.

Not just for herself…
but for every person who still hasn’t found their voice.

We talk about:
👉 What actually happens when you speak up
👉 Where the system supports… and where it fails
👉 The silence that protects the wrong people
👉 And why so many carry this alone for decades

This conversation will make people uncomfortable.

Good.

Because comfort is where silence lives.

If you think this doesn’t happen…
you’re wrong.

If you think it’s rare…
you’re wrong.

If you think the system always protects the innocent…
listen carefully.

This is for:
The survivors
The ones still carrying it
And the people who need to wake up

One thing I’ve been reflecting on lately is how hard it is to ever truly be “off work” in today’s world.

With social media, emails and phones always within reach, there’s often an expectation that we are constantly available. Messages come through at all hours, notifications pop up nonstop, and it can feel like you should always be responding, always engaging, always doing more.

But I’ve learned that constantly being “on” isn’t healthy.

Mental health has to come first. If we don’t take care of ourselves, we can’t properly take care of the people and communities we’re trying to support.

As Craic On Foundation continues to grow, this is something I’m committed to building into our culture. Our staff and volunteers give their time, energy and heart to the work we do, and that should never come at the cost of their wellbeing.

It’s important to me that Craic On Foundation is a place where people feel supported, where it’s okay to step back, switch off and look after your mental health.

Doing good work in the community starts with making sure the people behind that work are also looked after. 💚

Craic On Foundation
There’s a story about a child walking along a beach, picking up starfish one by one and throwing them back into the ocean.

Someone says, “There are thousands. You can’t possibly make a difference.”
The child throws another starfish into the sea and replies, “I made a difference to that one.”

That is Craic On Foundation. 💚

Every day, we stand beside victim survivors who feel overwhelmed, unheard, and alone, like the tide is too strong to fight. And while we know we can’t save every starfish on the beach, we can show up for the one in front of us. We can listen. We can advocate. We can care.

We do everything in our power to make sure no one has to do it alone. Not one survivor. Not one story. Not one moment where someone feels abandoned in their pain.

I am so incredibly proud of the difference we make, because to the person we walk alongside, that difference means everything.

If you’re able to help us keep doing this work, please consider donating. Your support helps us reach the next person on the beach who needs someone to believe in them.

One person. One moment. One life changed.

And that will always be enough to matter
