Supporting Families to Thrive Across North Queensland

Every family faces challenges from time to time. Having the right support at the right moment can make all the difference.

Across Townsville, the Burdekin, Ingham, Charters Towers, Mount Isa, Cloncurry and Normanton, our BRIDGE and Remote Area Integrated Family Support Services (RAIFS) teams walk alongside parents and carers, helping them build on their strengths, navigate challenges and create safe, nurturing environments for their children.

This support is complemented by our Education and Life Skills (ELS) and Family and Community Counselling Services (FCCS) teams, who provide parenting education, practical life skills, counselling and relationship support to help families grow stronger together.

The impact of this work is best reflected in the words of the families we support:

"This program gave me my confidence back and educated me on topics that I've struggled with. My family has their Mumma back and I have parts of me back."

When asked what was most valuable about the support they received, they shared:

"The flexibility, information, client-centred approach, the way I was empowered, the support and inclusion of my children. I could be here all day really."

💙 Meet Jennifer 💙

Jennifer is a proud Kalkadoon woman and Case Manager with the Reconnect program at Centacare North Queensland, based on Kalkadoon Country in Mount Isa. Recently appointed as Co-Chair of the Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) Working Group, Jennifer is passionate about sharing her culture, knowledge and lived experiences to help foster understanding, connection and reconciliation.

Drawing on the teachings of her family and community, Jennifer enjoys creating opportunities to share cultural knowledge and build stronger relationships across communities. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time on Country, exploring bush medicine, participating in sport and creating artwork that reflects her cultural identity and connection to Country.

Thank you Jennifer for making such a big difference in your community.

Mabo Day recognises the enduring connection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to Country and reminds us of the importance of truth, respect and reconciliation.

We celebrate the strength, resilience and culture of First Nations peoples and their ongoing contributions to our communities.

Today, on National Sorry Day, we pause to acknowledge the strength, resilience and enduring cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and to remember the Stolen Generations and the ongoing impacts of past policies and practices.

It is a day for reflection, truth-telling and listening, recognising our shared history and the importance of reconciliation for future generations.

We stand together in respect, healing and hope.
