At a Special General Meeting of the Australian Concerto and Vocal Competition held on Saturday, 15th February, 2024, a resolution was passed to close the Competition.
While the decision to wind-up the competition was difficult, it was simply taking control of the situation now rather than having to deal with the inevitable in the near future. However, on a positive note, the competition has offered great experiences for many young musicians over forty-four years. This is a great achievement and one that we celebrate as we know many of the competitors are now enjoying amazing careers in music and are happy to acknowledge the opportunity provided by the Competition.
At the meeting, it was also resolved that the balance of the remaining competition funds be transferred to the Great Barrier Reef Orchestra under the auspices of North Queensland Ensembles Inc. The orchestra has had a long connection with ACVC and has regularly provided the opportunity for the instrumental winner to perform with the orchestra. The orchestra is a well-established Townsville group that continues to support local musical talent often under the inspiration of international conductors. ACVC is happy to be able to assist with the orchestra’s future endeavours.
The Competition would not have enjoyed the success it has had without the commitment of members, volunteers, supporters and sponsors helping to encourage and support emerging musicians, local, national and international on their journey to success.
