FINISH LINE ETIQUETTE
A few things to remember to keep our finish line running smoothly
**ONLY GO THROUGH ONCE - if you have already finished and gone back to be with a friend, please DO NOT go into the finish chute a second time. You can go around the outside of the chute but entering the chute and crossing the finish line a second time can record another finish time and confuse the volunteers.
**DO NOT HARRASS THE TIMEKEEPER - the timekeeper's role is to record the time. Not to advise you of your time. If you wish to know your finish time immediately, you can ask the timekeeper but if you are ignored or they can't tell you immediately, DO NOT bother them again. DO NOT TRY TO TOUCH THEIR PHONE. The timekeeping app requires some skill in recording and a volunteer might be nervous or not able to read the time while also recording other finishers crossing the line. Your interruption may cause them to lose focus on recording times causing misalignment in times and tokens. You will have your time emailed to you later in the day (often within an hour of the event finishing). If it is critical that you know your finish time straight way and the timekeeper is not able to assist, please see the Run Director who will assist you.
**PLEASE TAKE A TOKEN - it's easy to forget to do things after a hard effort, but the volunteers aren't always able to chase you down to hand you your token. They will try to keep it aside, however, if this happens a few times, there might be a mix up in getting the right token to you. If you are not registered, please either take a token and return it to the table, or advise the token handler you do not wish for a token.
If you have any concerns about volunteers on the day, please see the Run Director on duty.
If you believe any of this is unreasonable, I encourage you to take up a volunteer role to experience firsthand what is involved in finish line mechanics. Our key volunteers and I will also do all of the above to you in person so you may enjoy the full chaotic experience. 😉
Thank you for your co-operation and keeping our event running smooth.
