⭐️✨ Another wonderful evening at Townsville City Council Toastmasters on 27th May! ✨⭐️

A special highlight of the evening was welcoming Mayor Nick Dametto, who accepted honorary membership of our club.

Mayor Dametto took the opportunity to speak about the importance of being able to address groups confidently in a variety of public speaking situations. He reflected on how his early Toastmasters training made a significant contribution to his personal development and career journey.

The State of Origin-themed meeting featured an entertaining Table Topics session facilitated by Bevin, with members and guests tackling a variety of thought-provoking and humorous questions.

🏆🎤Successful Speeches🎤🏆

Whether you're talking to a small group of people or speaking to a large audience, you want to be sure your speech is memorable and enjoyable. Follow these five easy tips to help ensure your speech delivers:

✅ Be prepared - Your audience is giving you their time and consideration, so rehearse enough to be confident you'll leave a good impression.

✅Start strong - Begin your speech with a powerful opening that will grab your audience's attention, such as a startling fact or statistic, an interesting story or a funny joke.

✅Be conversational - Avoid reading your speech word for word. Instead, refer to notes or points from an outline to help your speech have a more free-flowing, conversational tone.

✅Speak with passion - If you're truly invested in what you're saying, you'll be better able to keep your audience's attention.

✅Be patient - It's easy to get frustrated if you make a mistake. But remember that public speaking is not easy and it takes time to hone your skills. Keep practicing and you will reach your goals.

At Townsville City Council Toastmasters Club, we support each other to grow in confidence, leadership and communication skills in a welcoming and friendly environment.

✨⭐️Another wonderful evening at Townsville City Council Toastmasters on 22nd April!✨⭐️

We were delighted to welcome Area 15 Director Peter, along with Sharon, to our meeting. Both joined in enthusiastically throughout the evening, and it was fantastic to have them visit!!

Peter bravely took on a Table Topic, while both Peter and Sharon participated in the fun and engaging Round Robin session facilitated by Gemma.

A highlight of the evening was Andrew delivering a thoughtful and engaging speech, with members pleased to provide supportive feedback during the evaluation session.🙏

Another great night at Townsville City Council Toastmasters on 8 April 👏

We had a solid turnout and a really good mix of speeches, Table Topics, and plenty of laughs along the way. The word of the night was gallivant, which definitely suited the energy in the room.

The Table Topics session kept everyone on their toes, with some honest and entertaining answers, and the prepared speeches covered everything from stress-free travel to having a clear purpose and just having a bit more fun with what we do.

Big welcome to our newest members – Sandra, Rebecca and Caroline – great to have you officially on board!

🎉 A Night of Milestones, Energy, and World Plumbing Day Fun! 🚰✨

This week at Townsville City Council Toastmasters, we had an actionpacked meeting filled with celebration, great speeches, and plenty of laughs!

👏 We proudly recognised John and Leigh-Anne for an incredible 20 years of membership and dedicated service to Toastmasters. Their milestone awards were presented by our Club President Kristy and Area 69 Director Bevin — a huge congratulations to both on this outstanding achievement!

- Andrew delivered a captivating Icebreaker Speech that informed and entertained members and guests alike. A massive well done to Andrew on your first prepared speech — an excellent start to your Toastmasters journey!

- In honour of World Plumbing Day, Darryl kept everyone thinking (and laughing!) with his cleverly crafted plumbing themed Table Topic questions.

- Leigh-Anne took home the Timer’s Award for her perfectly timed speech, “Expect the Unexpected,” from her Persuasive Influence pathway.

- John was presented the Enthusiastic Toastmaster Award for his insightful and engaging evaluation of Leigh-Anne’s speech — well deserved!

Andrew also picked up two more honours:
• The Member’s Choice Award, as voted by our club members
• The Gavel of the Gab for his standout Table Topic response

A huge congratulations to all our award recipients — what a meeting!
