TROPIC CITY TOASTMASTERS is a TOWNSVILLE Club based in Kirwan for any persons looking to practice fast thinking and confident speaking in any unexpected, challenging and spontaneous situation. Members learn communication and leadership skills by speaking and working with others in a warm, friendly, and supportive environment. Through its member clubs, Toastmasters International helps men and women

learn the art of speaking, listening, and thinking. These vital skills promote self-actualisation, enhance leadership potential, and foster human understanding.

What grabs your audience’s attention in the first minute of a speech? Here are 7 speech hooks. Let's dive in:

📍TELL A STORY
Put the listener into a situation that they can identify with. Ensure you spend time building the character and emotions for sensation. More about this here: https://tropiccitytoastmasters.org/the-art-of-storytelling/

📍SHARE A CONCERNING STATISTIC
Statistics are generally developed in a way that reflects the truth of a situation. If the statistic is shocking, it encourages the audience to sit up and take note.

📍SURPRISE THE AUDIENCE
An unexpected movement, sound or display can have the audience transfixed on what will happen next.

📍LEAD WITH HUMOUR

BIG REVEAL!! - Our very own TropicCity Toastmasters member - Mr Mark Hegarty has been chosen as this year’s AREA DIRECTOR 🎉

Mark has been committed to the growth of Toastmasters for almost twenty years. He has held all Club Officer Positions, including President (9 times) and VPE (5 times). He has served twice as an Area Director previously, as well as Moreton Division Director and District 69 Finance Manager (twice). He has been so extraordinary in his commitment that he was awarded:
