1 in 6 older Australians reported experiencing abuse, despite this almost two thirds of older people don't seek help when they are abused.

June 15 is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. Everyone has a right to respect, dignity and safety.

Elder abuse is any act, or lack of action, within a relationship of trust which results in harm. It can be emotional, psychological, financial, physical or sexual abuse, or neglect.

If you, or someone you know, is experiencing elder abuse, help is available.

More than 60% of LGBTQIA+ people have experienced domestic, family or intimate partner violence and abuse in their lifetime. Sadly, LGBTQIA+ people are less likely to identify and report abuse.

On LGBTQ Domestic Violence Awareness Day, we shine a light on the unique barriers LGBTQIA+ communities face when seeking safety and support.

Your story matters. Your safety matters. You matter.

Today marks the start of National Reconciliation Week. The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2026 is All In, a call for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every single day.

All In makes clear that reconciliation is not a spectator sport and that all of us must step away from the sidelines and take action to make change.

The theme also reminds us that reconciliation and advancing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ rights isn’t a passive activity, and it is not solely the responsibility of First Nations people, who have carried the weight of championing, explaining and acting for far too long.

Reconciliation will not happen by itself, and it will not happen without all of us.

The theme for this year’s National Sorry Day is From Sorry to Action. The call is clear, we must move from words to action, and this needs to happen now, not in another decade.

Acknowledging past harm is important, but acting to address it is critical. Sorry signals compassion, action delivers justice.

We encourage you to mark National Sorry Day on 26 May, and to stand with us to ensure this day is part of an ongoing commitment to truth-telling and healing.

Today is IDAHOBIT - the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia. 🌈

LGBTQIA+ people experience domestic, family and sexual violence at disproportionate rates. Unfortunately, they are also much less likely to report abuse or seek support.

LGBTQIA+ people deserve to feel safe in their relationships and families. We are always here to help - if you or someone you know is experiencing domestic, family or sexual violence, we urge you to seek support.

One Thing you can do to help end domestic and family violence is get involved this May.

May is Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) Prevention Month in Queensland, and each of us can play an important part in creating safer communities.

This annual initiative is a chance to come together, build awareness and understanding, and take practical action to prevent DFV across our state. Whether you’re part of a large organisation, a sporting club, a community group, or an individual community member — one thing you do can make a difference.

Here are three simple, yet powerful “one things” you can start with:
🗣️✨ Call out harmful behaviour to help prevent DFV
💡📖 Learn more about DFV to break myths and stigma
🎓👥 Book training to educate yourself or your workplace

When many people take one positive action, it creates safer spaces for everyone.

What’s One Thing you will do to show your support during DFV Prevention Month?

There are many ways to get involved, and
every action helps send a message that
domestic and family violence has no place
in our community.

We can all make a difference and
contribute to a safer community by:
🤝 promoting respect
🚫 challenging harmful behaviours
📢 sharing accurate information
💜 supporting people who may be impacted by DFV.

steps you can take to prevent DFV in your
