⛰️ Castle Hill Working Bee – This Sunday, 7TH OF JUNE! 🌿

Join us for an afternoon of caring for one of Townsville's most iconic natural areas. Help with w**d management, habitat restoration and keeping Castle Hill looking its best for wildlife and the community.

🗓️When: 1st Sunday of the Month
3:30 - 5:30 pm (April - September)
4:00 - 6:00 pm (October to March)
🌻 Come along and join the team on Castle Hill the 1st Sunday of each month. The site is looking wonderful, but still, we have work to do! 🌞
👒💧 Please bring yourself some water and wear sun safe clothing, including closed in footwear.
👍Stay for a cuppa and chat afterwards. Please bring your own mug.

To celebrate National Volunteers week, we wanted to recognise some of the important work that our volunteers do. 🌺🌱

🍃 At CDTLI, we have a special membership dedicated to our life long volunteers, volunteers who have been putting in their all for many years. Life memberships are rarely awarded. And last Friday, we held a BBQ at our nursery to present 2 new life memberships.

Congratulations to Beth and Carole for being awarded Life memberships. These 2 have each dedicated 10+ years to Landcare, working tirelessly to provide the public with native plants at our Nursery. 🌱

Some great information on a local w**d! It can often be spotted around Townsville. 🌱🚫

W**D OF THE MONTH: SINGAPORE DAISY
It looks pretty but Singapore Daisy (Sphagneticola trilobata) is a fast-growing, mat-forming groundcover that is a serious threat to biodiversity in Queensland’s Wet Tropics.

Originally introduced as an ornamental plant, it has become highly invasive —smothering native vegetation, disrupting ecosystems, and invading riparian zones.

What to do about it:
🌼Don't plant it!
🌼Fragments of Singapore daisy can be spread on mowers and slashers. Carefully clean down equipment.
🌼Hand-pull small infestations, making sure you get all the fragments.
🌼There are two herbicides registered for the control of Singapore daisy. Refer to Biosecurity Queensland for up-to-date information on their use.

This is a Natureway area, and leashing dogs helps protect our native wildlife and environment.

Sir David Attenborough turns 100 today 🎉 On behalf of Landcare Australia and thousands of landcarers, happy 100th birthday Sir David! Thank you for inspiring millions of people (including us) to care for the Earth. 🌱

“The truth is: the natural world is changing. And we are totally dependent on that world. It provides our food, water, and air. It is the most precious thing we have - and we need to defend it.” – Sir David Attenborough

Across Australia, the landcare movement are out planting native trees, restoring habitats for threatened species, protecting soils and productive landscapes, improving biodiversity, and caring for waterways and coastlines. Landcare volunteers are caring for the places we all depend on - the kind of vital hands-on action Sir David has inspired for generations.

Here’s to continuing his legacy – one tree, one habitat, and one community at a time. 🌏
