Townsville Brass isn’t just about competitions and high calibre performances, it’s also about community.

This weekend we celebrated the rich community of our organisation as the Youth Band, Beginner Band and soloists from our Academy took to the stage to showcase their hard work and achievement. We also recognised the incredible efforts of our Brass Academy graduates who now share their flourishing skills with all the bands across our organisation. See if you can spot them at our upcoming performances!

Big congratulations to the bands, soloists and graduates, and to Heather and Roy for their expert guidance and instruction.

Did you LOVE our concert on Sunday?! We sure loved having you all there!!!

It's got us all thinking about how... musicians all start somewhere! Before we were all playing crazy fast passages, we were in band programs at our schools and in the community that supported us to become the musicians we are today.

Townsville Brass prides itself on our outstanding youth and beginner options.

🎺TOWNSVILLE BRASS ACADEMY

First off, our Academy offers lessons for ALL types of situations.

From adult beginners who have always wanted to play but never knew how, to adults re-learning their craft from years ago, as well as young beginners in primary school through to high school aged students who attend schools without music programs, you are welcome to learn with us!

🎺TOWNSVILLE BRASS BEGINNER BAND

If your child has JUST started playing and you would love for them to have an extra musical outlet to advance their skills, THIS is the group for you!

🎺TOWNSVILLE BRASS YOUTH BAND

If you've been playing for a year or two and would like to further advance your skills through playing in a community ensemble, THIS is the group for you!

Our final featured soloist for the event is Danny Dielkens.

Danny is our Townsville Brass Musical Director. He recently took the band to become 2026 B Grade State Champions and runners up for the Nationals. But did you know... he's also a professional musician?

Currently a member of the amazing 1RAR band, over the years Danny has played on both the national and international stage. So with this level of talent in our midst, what did we decide to hand him? A POST HORN!!!! Watch Danny as he not only conducts the band but also features in Post Horn Gallop. But... will he pass the post horn audition??? Come along to the concert TOMORROW to find out!

Our next two soloists are here!

🎺Claire Dickson is no stranger to the Townsville Brass stage, having been Principal Cornet of the band for over 15 years. In this concert she will be a featured Vitae Lux soloist, as well as many small solos throughout the repertoire. What is she looking forward to the most? Dueling with a POST HORN, of course!

🎶Jason Curtis has also been a principal player in the band for over 15 years. This euphonium enthusiast is set to impress with his beautiful rendition of 'The Holy Well'. Jason is known for his gorgeous euphonium sound and heart-felt renditions of each and every piece he presents.

To hear Claire and Jason, along with the rest of the B Grade State Champion Townsville Brass crew, make sure you secure your tickets!

We present to you two more of our soloists who will be featuring on Sunday!

This time we feature our lowest pitched soloist as well as our highest!

Roy Hosking is no stranger to the world of solo performance, but just wait until you see him make this tuba dance in 'Bass in the Ballroom'! This is definitely a concert highlight NOT to be missed!

Derek Larsen's return to soprano cornet over the last 7 months deserves a special celebration. He features in many of our pieces, including as one of our Vitae Lux soloists. Derek definitely 'earns his keep' in this concert with his soaring soprano lines.

Keep an eye out today and tomorrow for our final sets of soloists.

Introducing two of our featured players for Sundays concert!

🎺Flugel soloist Jonathan Conrad will take on his dream role from Brassed Off, presenting a breath-taking rendition of 'Concierto de Aranjuez' which is far from 'wobbly'.

🎵Trombone section leader Abraham Dubbeld has many featured trombone solos popping up in this concert, but we are most excited for his Macarthur Park masterpiece!

Happy 80th birthday to one of our longest serving members, Noel Price!

Also known as Pricey, Sir Price, the age-less.... this man has done so much for Townsville Brass across his years of service. It only seems fitting to celebrate this milestone with a picture of his cheeky grin and some well-deserved cake!
