🍃🩷I am because you are.
Sometimes kindness is quiet. Sometimes it comes with wind, water, laughter and a whole lot of banter. At Sailability Townsville, we see every week how one small act can ripple outward. Someone gives their time. Someone feels welcome. Someone discovers confidence. A friendship forms. Joy travels further than anyone expected. That is the beautiful thing about kindness. It rarely stays where it started.
What if kindness became contagious?
Carolyn Vincent, founder of The Ubuntu Foundation, knows something about the power of that first ripple. Her own journey towards building community began simply, by knocking on her neighbours’ doors when she found herself without one. It’s a philosophy that continues through Ubuntu today: connection starts when someone chooses to reach out. Not through grand gestures, but through ordinary people choosing to notice one another, make room for one another and show up. Perhaps that is how communities become stronger. One ripple at a time🩷🍃

There are days at Sailability Townsville when the magic is almost impossible to put into words. Today was one of those days.
I couldn't be there today, but thanks to Andrew, Kerry, Kerri, Sharman, Rebecca and, of course, Kris, the photos and videos kept arriving, and I got to watch the magic unfold from afar... And there were some pretty special moments.
Today, Kris Harber stepped up and captured the day epically, without me there beside him. He got on with it, filming, creating and doing his thing, and that deserves a very special acknowledgement. Sometimes growth doesn't arrive with a fanfare. Sometimes it's simply realising, I've got this... And that is exactly what Sailability Townsville is about.
Creating a place where people feel safe enough to stretch beyond what feels familiar. Where confidence grows naturally. Where nobody is judged, nobody has to prove anything and everyone is free to simply be themselves.
Then there was Liam.
In another beautiful piece of Sailability magic, Liam decided to head down onto the dock with Kate... And then came the moment nobody quite expected. He went sailing with Kate. He returned with the biggest smile, and those watching could see that something had shifted. Not because anyone told him what he could or couldn't do, but because he was given the space, encouragement and opportunity to discover it for himself... And Tom had his own special moment too, finding the courage to step aboard the support boat and join his friends. Sometimes the biggest wins are simply deciding, I’m going too.
That's the magic.
It was windy, it was lively, and from everything I've seen, it was a day filled with fun, laughter and connection.
A very special shout-out to our friends from Bentley Farm - Disability Support & Respite - Townsville for coming to visit us, and to all our fabulous regular participants who joined in and made the day what it was... And, as always, an enormous thank you to our incredible volunteers. You create the environment where these moments can happen. Every sail, every laugh, every conversation, every quiet word of encouragement and every welcoming smile matters. Sailability Townsville is about sailing, but it has always been about so much more than sailing.
It's about connection.
It's about community.
It's about finding a place where you are accepted exactly as you are. No judgement. No expectations. Just people sharing a river, some laughter, a little courage and a whole lot of joy... And every now and then, right there amongst it all...
✨ magic happens. ✨
Today, it happened again.

🌸Good Morning Everyone🌸
☀️Have a marvellous day☀️

15/08/2026

Today was all about connection, gratitude and the people who make Sailability possible.
We were incredibly fortunate to spend the day celebrating our wonderful volunteers, thanks to the generosity of our fabulous benefactor, Carolyn M Vincent from The Ubuntu Foundation, someone who understands just how important the work of volunteers is, and how much stronger our communities become when we create true connections with one another. So, what better way to celebrate than with an adventure?
We headed across to Picnic Bay on Magnetic Island for a day of sunshine, laughter, friendship and a very well-earned picnic.
We were lucky enough to sail across aboard Helusia and Enchante. A huge thank you to Ray, Andrew, and Leanne for getting us there and home again safely. Meanwhile, Owen took the helm of our support boat, freshly serviced by Townsville Marine... and naturally, we couldn't possibly have a freshly serviced boat without giving it a proper workout!
But today wasn't really about the boats, the island or even the picnic.
It was about people.
The people who turn up.
The people who lend a hand. The people who share their skills, their time and their laughter. The people who believe that everyone deserves the chance to belong, participate and experience the freedom of being on the water.
Thank you to everyone who was able to join us today.
Thank you to Carolyn, and The Ubuntu Foundation for fostering connection in our communities and for recognising the incredible contribution of volunteers... And most of all, thank you to every Sailability Townsville volunteer, for everything you do, seen and unseen.
Today was our little way of saying...
We see you.
We appreciate you.... And we are incredibly grateful to have you on this journey with us💙Sometimes the best adventures aren't about where you go. They're about who you go there with.
