📣 NQ Flyfishers Fly Tying Night 📣

Location: Loam Island Scout Group, 1100 Riverway Dr, Rasmussen

Date/Time: Thursday 13th August 2026, 1930hrs

Fly: Mat Male’s Mullet

Leader: Mat Male

Materials:
Hook of your choice (recommended size 4/0–6/0).
Large or extra-large aluminium dumbbell eyes.
Mono thread.
White and grey Slinky Fibre (or a similar synthetic fibre).
UV resin.
Lead wire, if additional weight is required (optional).

📣NQ Flyfishers Casting Tuition 📣

Date: Sunday 12th July 2026 (16:30 – 19:00).

Leader: Richard Wallace

Theme: Casting big, heavy flies… including pick-up, false casting and shooting line, as well as basic mechanics.

Location: Cranbrook Park, 20-40 Bergin Rd, Cranbrook QLD 4814, Australia

Fly: Gav’s Crab

Leader: Dave Little

Materials:
Ahrex SA220, SA280, SA254 or corresponding hooks in other brands. The original pattern was designed based on the Ahrex SA220.

Moon crab legs
1/4in tan flexo tubing
Tan thread
Tungsten putty (an alternative is squashed lead dumbell eyes)
Optional small crab/shrimp eyes

Tools include:
Pointy nosed pliers (preferably smooth, (not a ribbed grip)
Small kitchen scales accurate to 0.1g (if you have it).
Paint pen (yellow)
Marker pens (brown, yellow)
Varnish or Sally Hansen hard as nails
Thin UV resin and torch
