Nothing much gets me going more than unnecessary pain and suffering. But I will try and be calm to educate.
This beautiful barking owl was in care 4 weeks with someone who knew they shouldn't have the animal.
But the thought was "but if I take it to the vet they just euthanise "
I hear this surprisingly a lot.
If I take an injured animal to the vet there is usually a good reason. We don't want to put an animal of any kind down either.
But you must understand not everything can be "fixed" or rehabilitated...so what do you do then???
Of course we could save its life....to what cage a frightened, injured and miserable animal for 10 to 30 years just to keep it alive....and who pays for the housing, food and potential medical expenses.
Wildlife rehabilitation is not easy, we make hard decisions all the time.
People don't like those decisions sometimes...
I will always advocate what is best for the animal in question not the person.
I love Wildlife, animals in general and im quite obsessed with raptors. We never want to just put them down, vets as well.
We work in these industries because we care.
This bird was euthanised after xrays it would never fly or hunt again, it suffered unnecessarily under good intentions.
Please, if your ever unsure check in, we are here to help the community and make the crappy decisions when others can't.
