Nothing much gets me going more than unnecessary pain and suffering. But I will try and be calm to educate.

This beautiful barking owl was in care 4 weeks with someone who knew they shouldn't have the animal.

But the thought was "but if I take it to the vet they just euthanise "

I hear this surprisingly a lot.

If I take an injured animal to the vet there is usually a good reason. We don't want to put an animal of any kind down either.

But you must understand not everything can be "fixed" or rehabilitated...so what do you do then???

Of course we could save its life....to what cage a frightened, injured and miserable animal for 10 to 30 years just to keep it alive....and who pays for the housing, food and potential medical expenses.

Wildlife rehabilitation is not easy, we make hard decisions all the time.

People don't like those decisions sometimes...

I will always advocate what is best for the animal in question not the person.

I love Wildlife, animals in general and im quite obsessed with raptors. We never want to just put them down, vets as well.

We work in these industries because we care.

This bird was euthanised after xrays it would never fly or hunt again, it suffered unnecessarily under good intentions.

Please, if your ever unsure check in, we are here to help the community and make the crappy decisions when others can't.

Another barn owl in care, she was still sleeping off sedation from xrays, so I took the opportunity to use our new laser thermometer.

She woke up nicely after a few hours and is doing well.

I'm expecting a full recovery amd a release as soon as she is feeling better 🪶🪶🪶

I have been super busy lately, a second Barking owl came into care after the release of the other, a little Boobook owl with vision issues, last night I released a Barn owl that had a scrap with some magpies and a new barn owl came in same day.

The increase in owl activity is because the season for romance is upon them.

Owls are on the move looking for mates, possibly new territories and hollows to breed in.

If you find any injured wild life call for advice or get them into your nearest local vet for assessment.

Immediate action can saves their precious lives.

Sadley this Black shouldered kite didnt make it.

The bird was emaciated and very weak. It was taken to a vet, thank you to all involved. It was xrayed and examined.

This is most likely to be secondary poisoning from rat bait, as the bird was very pale in the mouth and low on body mass with no other major injuries.

After warming, sub cut fluids and vit k to try and reverse the effects of poisoning, the bird passed away.

Sad result for a beautiful bird. 😔🪶🪶🪶

This poor barn owl came in yesterday, thank you to all who mentioned Fight 4 Flight N.Q. Birds of Prey on public forums.

The bird was taken to a vet a reffered to us.

Sadley ravens had pulled out several primary flight feathers and all tail feathers.

Too much of the delicate skin was missing and injuries were to the bone with tendons exposed. The owl was pts, as there was not enough skin to suture and repair.

The bird would never have flown again. 😔🪶

This is a female Barking owl, she is a bit of a mystery, was able to be picked up and was taken to a vet.

She has some missing tail feathers and I'm assuming a head trauma as one pupil is slightly lager than the other. Otherwise she is in good condition.

If you can approach a wild animal and pick it up, there is always something wrong.

Taking them to your nearest vet or calling wildlife services is the best course of action.

She is being kept nice and quiet she is eating on her own so that is a super plus.

Hopefully she will be back home soon. 🦉🦉🦉

Thought I'd share something a little different, my love of birds as you can see started when I was very young.

I can truly say wildlife has always been a big part of my life and I'm genuinely blessed to be able to work, rehabilitate, educate and be a part of something that I have always felt drawn to.

I have always believed in the never, never, never, give up theory.

This is a continuing journey of my lifes work and passion and I thank all of you who follow, have helped out, donated time or money for your on going support.

I believe we should all pursue things that makes us happy.

My feathered friends certainly make me happy.

This young Black kite came into care in early 2025, covered in some sort of oil, the feathers were badly damaged and the bird needed time to moult new feathers before being able to fly again.

After many baths initially and months of recuperation she is finally free again. 🪶🪶🪶
Video to follow.

What a delight to see her back in the wild.

Hi all, I need help... for the birds...

I have had a lot of trouble finding carpenters, builders to help with ongoing infrastructure and maintenance.

Either paid or not paid its been a real struggle to get things done, so I'm reaching out to the community to find someone who can help with this work.

I need an air lock finished, I have materials just need the expertise of a builder.
I have multiple enclosures that need work, mostly with timber and shade cloth, also construction of new enclosures as the old ones are literally ready to come down.

If you can help, donate some time or know anyone that could be interested, please call 0407 378 997 or share away.

Deb.
