Not every white butterfly is a Cabbage White!

Most species of WHITE BUTTERFLIES in Australia are NATIVE – and their caterpillars won't ruin any of your veggies!

The accidentally-introduced European 'Cabbage White' butterfly has pale dirty-yellow hind-wings with grey markings and will, typically, be the only white butterfly that will hang around the nearest patch of cabbage-related plants.

The male of the 'Yellow Albatross' looks similar – but is a little larger and usually has brighter yellow lower underwing and crisper black markings (the female looks quite different).

All species of 'Pearl-White' butterfly (which are all similar) are only a little smaller than a Cabbage White – but they have brighter “pearly" or "chalky" white hind-wings and don’t have any spots on their upper wings.

The 'White Migrant' is larger than all the others – but has very little in the way of markings on it’s underwings at all. It’s upperwings very rarely open – except in flight.

Many well meaning Australians unintentionally “rescue” baby birds each year, when in reality their parents are often close by. During spring or after storms, chicks may fall from nests, and while it can look worrying, unnecessary intervention can actually reduce their chances of survival.

By creating a safe, temporary nest, you can give them the best chance to be reunited with their family instead of ending up in care.

We’re calling for rules to protect mapped habitat corridors from development - not rules that stop residents pruning or removing trees in urban backyards. Let’s protect nature while keeping our rights. 🌱 ✅
